Charlamagne On Young Thug: “He’s No Lil Wayne”

During a newly published interview with VladTV, Power 105.1 radio personality Charlamagne Tha God offered his take on the on-going tensions between Lil Wayne and Young Thug.

During the conversation, Charlamagne admitted that he has no desire to hear Young Thug’s latest album, Barter 6.

“I’m gonna be honest with you, I haven’t heard it,” he says. “I have no desire to hear it. I have nothing against Young Thug. [I] don’t know the young man. I’m just not interested in his music. I don’t know what the fuck he’s saying. It’s just not for me. I’m 34-years old, I like rappers that I can actually understand [and] rappers that can articulate very well. The shit he’s on, I ain’t on it.”

Charlamagne then went on to offer some advice for the Rich Gang rapper.

“You’re playing yourself,” he says. “You’re setting yourself up for failure, Young Thug and I’ma tell you why. Be the best Young Thug you can be because people fuck with Young Thug. People like Young Thug. He only sold 18,000 records [in] his first week, so whatever fan base you do have, keep capitalizing off of that and keep being the best Young Thug you can be. You can’t be that young man Lil Wayne.”

Later in the conversation, Charlamagne suggested that in two years time people won’t even be talking about Young Thug.

“Two years from, now it’s a great chance we won’t even be talking about Young Thug,” he says. “It’s a great chance. Let me give you a great example: LL Cool J [and] Canibus. LL, OG, legend, mad equity. Here comes this new guy named Canibus. He comes out, gets at him, second round knockout, goes right after him, puts the mic on his arm — where is Canibus now?”

Elsewhere, while discussing the Birdman-led Rich Gang, Charlamagne admitted to liking Rich Homie Quan more so than Young Thug.

“I like Rich Homie Quan better than Young Thug,” he says. “I think Rich Homie Quan is actually dope. I like Rich Homie Quan. I hate that dance he be doing. I don’t know what the fuck is going on with that dance, that shit look silly to me, but Rich Homie Quan makes good records. He makes other people’s records sound good when he’s on there doing hooks and stuff. I personally like Rich Homie Quan more than Young Thug. I think Rich Homie Quan is gon’ be around longer than Young Thug.”

Back in January, Charlamagne opened up about his thoughts on the situation between Lil Wayne and Cash Money Records, declaring that Lil Wayne was the one “who made Cash Money what it is” today.

    1. Well Charlamagne, you ask where is canibus now. So I thought I will tell you. he just dropped his best LP to date with Bronze Nazareth on production. Line for line Canibus would destroy LL.

My question is where the fuck is LL now? On TV acting as a cop while making shitty pop music for the last 10 years.

So before you got jumped again and fucked up again, get your facts straight before you talk shit.

      You non-talented loser!

      1. Dude. He can make as many records as he wants but only losers like you will continue to buy.

ll is doing movies because he mastered rap. He dropped records for almost 20yrs. What the fuck is Canibus doing? STILL DISSING EMINEM. Dude set him self up for failure.

      2. [Canibus vs LL]

*line for line Canibus destroyed that man

*only people who were more concerned with LLs popularity, money and appeal would say otherwise (which rightfully should be WOMEN, but HipHop has an undertone of homo erotic obsession with counting other men’s pockets)

*Canibus has continually hurt his own career through a number of AWFUL decisions

*however, his bad business decisions has NOTHING to do with his lyrical skill just as Master P’s good business decisions have nothing to do with his sub par lyrics

      3. @ Real Hip Hop
Canibus is dope lyrically but can’t make a song that’s why he don’t sell and got destroyed in the battle with Diz if you know your history of Hip Hop youngster you would know what LL has done he was Def Jam without him that wouldn’t be When you can rock for 20 years you move on to other things because you did what you needed to do there. Learn from the greats before you reply on legends with Bull Shit your times up

    2. Is this really an interview? Sounds like it’s just the interviewer’s chance to voice his knowledge/opinions. And is it really all that serious to compare Lil Wayne and Young Thug? It’s a waste of time. #RipTheJacker , best Canibus album.
