As part of i-D magazine’s Winter 2017 issue, Long Beach, California native Frank Ocean provided a photographic glimpse into his life on the festival circuit, which is featured as the cover story.

For the piece, Ocean penned a personal essay and laid out a visual portfolio consisting of dozens of photos.

“Over his six-year solo career, Frank Ocean has initiated compelling conversations around creativity, sexuality and identity,” an i-D magazine Instagram caption read. “After spending summer 17 on tour, Frank created a 32-page visual document for i-D that makes imaginative sense of his magical summer festival season.”

Ocean, who turns 30 on October 28, explained that the photo ideas came to him in a dream.

“As Karl Lagerfeld would say they ‘came to me in a dream,'” Ocean wrote. “Summer two thousand and seventeen. We leaned into it. Bananaberry flavored candies at the bottom of the cup. I’ll never know why or what’s with campouts for Szechuan sauce at McDonalds. But I’m way into it. Issa Dreamworld.”

He continued, “If you liked two thousand and seventeen then you’ll love two thousand and eighteen.”

Taken while Ocean toured over the summer, the series of photos features the singer, the orchestra he took on tour, producer Buddy Ross and other collaborators.
