Iggy Azalea Reveals Workout Routine, Southern Rap Kinship, OutKast Influence

Iggy Azalea says she loves Rap-A-Lot Records, OutKast and Houston.

Iggy Azalea, who has the #10 album in the country on this week's Billboard Top 200 Albums chart with The New Classic, recently revealed her kinship with Southern Rap, naming specific acts that influenced her.

"I love OutKast," Azalea says. "I love [T.I.]. I love Houston, Rap-A-Lot Records. The thing that I always loved about Southern music was that they were country, and being from Australia, I was from the country. So that was a thing that I kind of felt like I could identify with more than with a rapper that was from L.A. [or] New York City."

During the interview, Azalea was also asked about her workout routine.

"When you're a woman, you try to make time for the gym, and for a big work-out routine," she said. "I find with what I'm doing, that seems impossible. If you just take the time to do some squats, and also some sit-ups every night before you go to bed. That's the best thing. Just don't skip it, like brushing your teeth."

The New Classic has sold 18,262 units this week. Overall, the effort has sold 145,603 copies.

The project earned a 2.5 out of 5 in its HipHopDX review

    • gotitgurl

if you read her bio she tells why. she looks up to tupac, tlc, and ti. she idolizes southern southern rappers. she moved to the us and lived in southern states to learn to accent and culture. not racist. real. following her dreams and doing what she loves.

    • kickthatrealish

@tigerking79, she moved from Australia to Miami at the age of 16 and has moved around the southern states ever since...

It's called modern day black face. Straight up racist shit she is doing. It would be different if she rapped in her regular voice. But faking a down south black accent, when you have an Australian accent and have never lived down south is straight up black face.
