50 Cent Says "Beef Doesn't Sell Records," Likens Eminem To His Grandparents

50 Cent likens Eminem's influence to that of his grandparents and says he owes his career to Marshall Mathers.

Upon the release of 50 Cent's new single "My Life," featuring Eminem and Adam Levine, the emcee stopped by Carson Daly's show to talk about it. The founder of G-Unit went on to explain how much Eminem has meant to him, comparing his impact to his grandparents' and saying he owes his career to Shady. He also went on to explain why his own up and coming artists ended up on his bad side.

"My career wouldn't even exist, I wouldn't even be talking to you if it wasn't for Em," 50 Cent said. "It's amazing that later in your life you could find someone that means so much to the comfort in your actual life. My grandparents were that for me before Em."

As he continued, he was asked about his feud with former G-Unit members. 50 says they wanted to be as big as him, without him around.

"You can offer an artist an opportunity to have the audience that's interested in you become interested in them. You can let them perform on your stage and work in your music videos and everything but if they want what you have and they can't quite do that, they gotta establish that on their own," he shared. "The artists got uncomfortable and felt they wouldn't be as big as me with me. I never felt, 'I have to get rid of Em to get big.'"

He continued by saying that beef doesn't sell.

"Beef doesn't actually sell records. It creates that barbershop/beauty salon conversation. Hit records sell records."

My Life is now #2 on Itunes. Jimmy's calling. He's now saying the album won't be out till June 2015 lol

  • Anonymous

"i said records not singles" Records... Songs... Singles... Take your pick. He's had 3 gold albums. The singles I already mentioned that charted in the top three, and others that still charted in the top ten. It's too easy making you look bad. Put up a fight once in awhile.

    • Anonymous

I see the bitch-made douchebag is here spinning things to benefit his punk ass. Ross has 4 gold plaques Mr know-it-all. "Ayo Technology" was a worldwide hit song. "I Get Money" is RIAA gold certified.

    • Not Rich And Still Trying

It doesn't change the fact that he's doing Saigon numbers nowadays.

  • Anonymous

"Ayo Technology feat. Justin Timberlake and Timbo, I Get Money, Baby By Me feat. Ne-Yo" Lol Those songs flopped and you know it.

  • Anonymous

Liar!! Beef like controversy sells. 50 cent is a big name today not because he can rap, in fact his rap and lyrics are an embarrassment to the NewYork rap scene. the only reason he is big is because of those 9 shots, eminem and Dr DRE.

  • Anonymous

That single aint even in the top 100 on itunes charts go see for yourself.

  • Exile

50 put both Buck and Yayo on, he's the one that got them for that G-Unit record in the same way Em brought D12 into the game. As for game, he achieved his success by partnering with G-Unit.. But you could put more of his success on Dr. Dre, who was really the one that found him. Sure Game and Banks got skills, but they need to man up and give credit where it's due. 50 been gone for a long time, I'm looking forward to seeing him and Em rip the game up again, werd up!

  • Chris Etrata

Without eminem and Adam Levine, it would be nowhere on the chart or even the rap itunes chart.

  • South Africa loves Game/Compton/West Side

50 put Game on ??? if that is the case how come he did not put banks ?? how come he did not put yayo on ?? Game did the numbers he did cause of raw talent and maybe the aftermath buzz at the time. but to give cred to 50 for the documentary is being delusional. He could have got yayo and Banks to go 5 x platinum as well but they did not cause they do not have the skills GAme has or half the talent. #bitches

    • America Hates South Africa And Everything Related To It

Bitch please. Y'all Game dickriders make me sick to the stomach. 50 pratically did the whole Documentary album by himself. Wrote all the hooks and shit, bought the beats and everything. All Game had to do was go to the booth. It should've been labeled as a 50 Cent/The Game joint album. You're the one being delusional for believing Game has talent.

  • TaZzZ

The only reason anyone knows who you are is because of beef... How To Rob? Wanksta? Piggy Bank? Dude's a fuckin' lame, no one has ever abused calling out people you have absolutely no business talking about harder than him, at least except it

    • HELLO

"50 cent had a lot of hit songs" Yeah, mainly off that first album. At least Ja has a body of work. He didn't have alot of #1 hits, but for a minute there he pretty much ruled (no pun intended) the radio.

    • HELLO

Nope, he has a plethora of hit songs from various album. These all were top 20 Billboard and iTunes hits- In Da Club, 21 Questions feat. Nate Dogg, P.I.M.P., Candy Shop, Just a Lil' Bit, Ayo Technology feat. Justin Timberlake and Timbo, I Get Money, Baby By Me feat. Ne-Yo, and now 'My Life' feat. Eminem and Adam Levine

  • creeper slim

50 right mane.I always liked this niggas shit cause he the real deal. They bitin the hand that feed.He aint never had to do that to the white boy and look how they been gettin it for years now!Suckas should respect.

  • Anonymous

"how many platinum records has ross and mmg sold?" Ross has two platinum songs. It's really time you just wised up and cut the big guy some slack cause if you keep going with all this hate one day it will be too much pressure on your brain and I'm afraid you might do something rash like bump "In Da Club" with the windows down.

  • Anonymous

"It was a joint deal with Dr. Dre. 50 cent is officially signed under Eminem's label, Shady Records" Interscope was the label. Shady was the offshoot. You think Eminem personally authorized and cut 50 a check for 1 million? Think before typing.

  • Anonymous

Word! Only 71 comments, and for the actual song 50 had over 600 comments. This just goes to show, every 50 track he and his staff are writing all those great reviews. Lmao, he must be busy in a meeting or something. He'll blog in and fill up the comments later or when he takes a break. lol

  • Anonymous

    Eminem didn't sign him.

  • Darryl

If 50 was smart, he should mix with young up and comers from Queens & NYC in order to revive his mark in this game. He has the power to and the influence, why not? Maybe A$AP, Joey Bada$$, Your Boy for Life, you know..now you have the potential to raise and shed light on the new generation! Peace!

    • Lawless

I don't think that would suit 50's image, he didn't really fix perceptions of him being an aggressor and always looking to 'beef' with other artists. His career was initially helped by that thuggish image, but fans evolve. We're at a point now where the most successful artists in hip-hop are those surrounded by a strong team of other artists who they're actively trying to push to be successful and have the financial incentive to do so. Other than Eminem and Jay-z (to an extent now) I don't see any other major hip-hop artists being stand-alone. I don't mention Kanye because he has his G.O.O.D music team now, and although he's successful with or without them, he's decided to lead a team like Lil Wayne and Rick Ross do. I'll end on this though. G.O.O.D > the rest

Ja Rule is the best! Ya dig?

  • Anonymous

Ja Rule more relevant than 50.

  • Anonymous

Ja Rule hurt 50 Cent's career.

  • datnigga

Actually, he's right. If it wasn't for the actual meeting with Dre, Em, and 50, they wouldn't have actually signed him and gave him an actual contract to release his actual debut album that really gave him an actual career. Looking forward to the actual project coming next year. Let's hope it doesn't actually get pushed back again.

  • JesusPiece

without "beef" and Dr. dre beats... 50 will be a average ny rapper... sorta like the rapper Mims

    • Hoody

No,just no.. example would be 50's mixtapes prior to the release of his album.. plus look at all the others that came & went thru using Dre beats & beef. lol,50 wouldve been a star eventually, regardless. Eminem saw it first, and he gives Em credit for that.

  • lodi mack

This is from a man that went at Alicia Keys and then begged her for a feature. That is my prob with 50 he too hypocritical. He likes to say people are fake and not real, but he is no different. He loves to say his peeps shot Game and Game didnt do nothing. Well his peeps got blazed and he didnt do shit. He says people lie in they raps. Well hes got a song Called, "High All The Time" He also knows deep in his heart he filed that OP against Gotti. He knows that OP exist and so does the officer. Hes a hypocrite, because Ross and Game are fake and phony but so is 50. Who shot Yayo moms house up??? Oh ...That didnt happen, OK!!!

THE ONLY THING THAT CAN KEEP 50 CENTS CAREER ALIVE IS A TRACK WITH RIFF RAFF. RIFF RAFF THE KING OF THIS SHIT. RAP GAME CAREER SAVER. 100

My mouth dropped just at the headline of BEEF DOESN'T SELL!!!! He's only saying that because Beef built, and then destroyed his career! Truth be told, The Game on G-Unit was more of an Interscope thing, than a 50 put Game on thing. Buck was shining as the most talented and 50 couldn't handle that. Anytime that happens, he shits on the person getting more shine than him. **For The 50 Stans I'm Not Talking Sales** Game was shining bright when Documentary released, Buck second album was the last thing that was dope from G-Unit, streets start talking and 50 didn't like being called the weak link in his own crew so he pulls unfair rank. Karma is a fat rapper named Ross 50! Single is wack! When you have Eminem & Adam Levine, go on the top rated Music Show, premiere the video the same day, interview everywhere, and still get a weak response....your clock starts to time out! **50 Stans, I'm Not Talking The Money He Made From Water or Get Rich**

    • P

lol @ ricky rozay, you got five albums and not one has even sold a mill, plus the fact you dont even sell internationally lol.....fail

    • Industry Advocate

@Anonymous That's my point...HE CAN'T SELL A MILLION RECORDS ANYMORE!!! That's the reason i said destryoed. He went from 7 Mil to 5 Mil to 1.6 Mil to 500k. Last G-Unit Album sold 2-300k. Album has been pushed back as his singles get no response! Banks has had a hit and more accalim since he has. Bonus Point: He didn't sign Danny Brown because he looked to weird, which Yayo brought to him. Shows how out of touch he is with what's going on in Hip Hop at all!

    • Ricky Rozay

@2nd anonymous Nigga you a dumbass. 50 cant sell a million no more. That nigga last album flopped selling like what 200k. This niggas albums been flopping since he fabricated beefs to drive his record sales. This next ablum gon go wood and yall 50 dickriders will still only talk about his money. Word to all you 50 stans talkin bout another niggas money is the gayest shit you can do. Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Anonymous

How can a guys career be destroyed when he can still sell a million records????? LMAO...douche.

  • clevelandchief

Why yall broke ass ni99az always hating in these comment section? "oh he lame" "His whole career is beef" "he so stupid" "I hope his album flop" "the game has better music" This ni99a is richer than yall x10=STFU

    • MONK

WHY THEY CALL U ROZAY AGAIN OH YEAH DIDNT WANT TO ANTI UP SUM MONEY TO FREEWAY RICKY ROSS THE REAL ONE. MADE MILLS OFF ANOTHER MANS NAME AND DIDNT EVEN BREAK BREAD. NEVER SOLD DRUGS,WAS A C/O UR NAME SHOULD BE ROSIE RICK

    • Hoody Harrellson

Truth be told, counting another mans money doesnt make him relevant or his music any good.. 50 had his shine, its gone. No hating, its fact. 50 is a smart guy to make investments, but what does his money have to do with you? lol

    • clevelandchief

must of hit a nerve with your sensitive ass... Stop being a hater they have clinics for you. Lets see, you call yourself Ricky Rozay... Thats like double fiction. Your not the rap Rick Ross who is not the real Rick Ross. So really who is the lame here? You, Bawse? Ni99a you aint even the bawse of your keyboard..

    • Ricky Rozay

nigga shut the fuck up. Only some lame ass unemployed bitch niggas be talkin about another man's money. Fuck outta here. Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • BIG GRIM REAP NIGGA

Actually 50 is right, of course him of all people should know. He said "Beef doesn't actually sell records", basically its a tool a label can use. Having the beef means nothing if the label don't utilize it to their benefit.

  • Poli-si

Conditional love is like air. I love air because it keeps me alive. When it doesn't I'll hate it.

  • Ricky Rozay

This bitch ass nigga keeps talkin out the ass. This the same nigga that been makin fake beefs to drive record sales then gets ethered by Ross and now aint no longer relevant. NIggas next album gon go triple wood and this nigga make this excuse already because his shit gon flop. Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

Guy more confused than a gay guy saying he's not gay.

  • Anonymous

this nigga just dissed Game n Buck on his record...now he talkin bout "beef don't sell shit"....smh that My Life track was a waste of Eminem feature with an Adam Levine hook....hate it or love it Game's "My Life" shits on 50's single

  • Em is King

50 could of had a nice indie/underground career if he wanted. His older material is his best material.

  • YEBO

THIS NIGGA IS OUT OF HIS MIND, HIS WHOLE CAREER IS BUILT UP ON BEEFS WITH EVERYBODY FROM JA RULE, RICK ROSS, JAY-Z, GAME, CAM'RON TO JADAKISS, YOUNG BUCK OR NAS, NOW HE TRIES TO ACT AS A GROWN MAN (FINALLY) JUST BECAUSE HE REALISED HIS FABRICATED BEEF BITCH MOVES JUST IN ORDER TO GET ATTENTION DON'T WORK ANYMORE. NOW HE TRIES TO GET POP ARTISTS LIKE ALICIA KEYS, ADAM LEVINE OR EMINEM ON HIS RECORDS, BUT NEW DAY FLOPPED ANYWAY AND THIS WILL FLOP TOO. HIS ALBUM WILL HAVE MORE FEATURES THAN ALL OF THE GAME'S CLASSIC ALBUMS TOGETHER AND IT WILL FLOP HARDER THAN ANYTHING HE EVER RELEASED. HE NEVER BEEN A GOOD RAPPER, STEALING IDENTITY FROM ORIGINAL 50 CENT AND PRODUCING ALMOST AS BAD MUSIC AS CHIEF KEEF DOES. AND I DON'T MENTION THE FACT THAT EVERY RAPPER HE BEEFED WITH WAS FAR BETTER THAN 50 CENT, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE LIKE NAS.

  • Hi Man2.0

From a man who ve been famous by BEEF ....

  • Anonymous

i wish someone would've told him that before he put his beef in my butt

  • Booga

Dis nigga really just say beef doesnt sell yet his lead single, the same damn song hiphopdx put on this article has a line dissing Game and Buck...wtffff

    • Booga

Trrru, but I doubt they even care..I think Games passed the whole beef thing with 50, i doubt he respondes...he didnt last little jab 50 made about Game and Wayne

    • Anonymous

No arguments on 50 being Lame. But he wasn't trying to sell records by dissing them on here, he was just being a dick and sneaking in a line about them on it. Check this songs Itunes page, none of the people who bought it even noticed, the only people who probably care at all are Game & Buck

    • Booga

Simple fact is hes saying beef dont sell yet beefin on his single...thats lame

    • Anonymous

But only a retard would think that line is the selling point of the song Eminem Verse and Adam Levine hook = the songs selling point Line dissing Game & Buck = 50 being a petty child sneaking a line in about them on a song he hopes will be a hit He's right, beef doesn't sell records....... The only people who care about rap beef now are the kids who sit online and download everything for free...... People don't go to Best Buy or pick up concert tickets saying "Hell Yeah, Goin to see 50 next week, I hope he talks shit about someone!!!"

  • Tank

Hold up!!! Hes gonna sit up there and say beefs don't sell records and he damn near started all BEEFS??? He now just realize that??? For all those who saying beefs sell records need to wake up... it did BACK IN THE DAYS, but now people are not into that bullshit no more. Its all about hit records that play on the radio A LOTS.

  • Attention Whore

so why you do it then? you fuckin attention whore

  • Anonymous

If interscope/aftermath/shady records support well 50 his next album will do big numbers

  • Not Rich And Still Tryin

You don't know shit, nigga. Y'all industry niggas depend on beef. You should of know, since Get Rich or Die Tryin sold 8 million copies off yo beef with Ja Rule.

    • Anonymous

50 cent had songs like Many men, 21 questions, p.i.m.p., if i can't, patiently waiting, wanksta just to name a few popular ones. The album had more hit songs than ja rule made in his career.

    • Anonymous

Hahaha you think he sold because of the beef. like this guy said probably more than half the people who bought the album didn't even know who ja rule was. 50 cent had a lot of hit songs that got played everywhere like clubs thats why it sold. I can't even name a fuckin ja rule hit song besides that track with ashanti (always on time) and it's only popular because ashanti had a good hook. how stupid are you?

    • Anonymous

how could you not know who ja rule was back then???? I remember clear as day that they had his beef with ja HIGHLY publicized. It was EVERYWHERE. His diss songs were all over the radio along with the rest of gunit/shady/aftermath disses to ja. and on top of that, people seem to forget that before 50 came along, ja was one of the top artists in the game. From late 98 - fall 2002 the top artists in the game were Jay, Em, Ludacris, Nelly, and Ja Rule. So trust, people knew who ja rule was

    • Anonymous

dont give ja so much credit i bet you over half the people who listened to 50 and bought that record dont know who ja rule is or why they were beefing

  • Anonymous

Haha! Only reason this nigga kicked out Game of G-Unit, was that Game got as big as him, maybe even bigger, 50 got scared, kicked him out, got crushed, and only sold sivler/gold after that.

    • Holla

Laughing hard, I Remember? Listen to: Black Jesus, Holy Water, Celebration remix. They KILL 50's latest singles. I Remember is the man having fun with his homies, wtf does it matter? My Life ain't real hiphop... Game is illuminati? Hahahaha, they don't exist, and if I have to follow the standards people put on being a member of illuminati is being famous. 50 is more famous than Game, although Game is the better rapper. RED was pretty good actually, LAX was too long imo, but that's just opinion.

    • Anonymous

Game is far from being as big as 50 cent was. But he still did a very good job on his own. I think LAX was a great album i really enjoyed it. But RED album just wasn't as good in my opinion. But now he has collabs with rick ross n shit. And has too many features which is kinda gay.

    • Tank

I wouldn't say GAME is as big as 50, but GAME did hold his own and still have a career in the rap GAME. But Yayo and Banks where are they????

    • Anonymous

@Holla have u heard the game's new song?? The Game - I Remember ft. Young Jeezy, Future, is that what you call real hip hop?? while your'e dissin 50's song wich is real hip hop . and the game is an illuminati cunt , i mean look at he's album cover is a jesus whit an bandana

    • Anonymous

Silver is an 'unofficial' certification. I believe it's 60k sales. Its not actually recgonized by the RIAA and it only officially certified in the UK so it doesn't really matter. People also have numbers for Bronze records and shit but it doesn't really matter.

    • Anonymous

      wtf is silver?

    • Anonymous

rofl The Massacre sold 1.14 mil in 4 days, Game wasn't nearly as big as 50.

    • Holla

EXACTLY, that nigga says beef doesn't seel, then why does he talk about it? Why the fuck does he keep bringing it up when Game and Buck only respond? It's history, Game went on to be fine, Buck's fate is worse unfortunately. But Game is the better rapper anyway, nothing wrong with fif though. Love it that he's coming back, would love to see Buck coming back too. But let's face it, Game was the best G-unit member. I don't see Yayo or Banks establishing their own careers, they need 50 for that. Game does good like this, the man is himself, enjoys life. Now let's support real hiphop and but that Jesus Piece on December 11th!
