Hit-Boy Talks Producing For "Watch The Throne"

The G.O.O.D. Music producer explains how his contribution to 'Ye and Jay's album came about.

Throughout his career, Kanye West has maintained a strict level of control over the production of his numerous projects. But for his and Jay-Z's upcoming collaborative LP Watch the Throne, 'Ye pulled a 180 on his usual process, passing off the majority of the production duties to the likes of the RZA, S1, Swizz Beatz and more. Now, one of the album's featured beatmakers Hit-Boy opens up to MTV about his contribution to the project "Niggas in Paris."

Hit-Boy told Mixtape Daily about how his work on Yeezy and Hova's album came about. The "Drop the World" producer G.O.O.D. Music signee explained that after giving Mr. West a beat CD, the Chi-Town rapper and his Brooklyn compatriot fell in love with one particular track while visiting Paris, ultimately inspiring the song's title.

"'Niggas in Paris' came about from me having a beat idea already. When I went to New York, I just further went into it," Hit-Boy said. "It was just a batch of beats. Kanye asked me for some beats, and that was one of the beats I gave him...[Kanye and Jay-Z] actually went over to Paris; I didn't get to make that trip. Next thing I know, they're like, 'Yo, I need all the files for that beat.'"

Hit-Boy added, "That particular beat was just energetic. It's something that can be played in the club, it's something that can be played on radio. It's a more of a fun type record. Just different flows, the way that they rode the beat, it's just new, it's fresh."
