Okay, I’m an eminem and Jay-Z fan, but the last album that Eminem made on a lyrical technical on par with Paper Trail was the Marshal Mathers LP. The Eminem Show, Encore and Relapse are trash lyrically. He has totally forsaken rhyme schemes and multisyllable rhyme or flow, which was never his thing.
Jay-Z is pretty much the same. Although he always prided himself in his flow, so it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Of New York’s last big three — Biggie, Nas and Jay — Nas was always the lyric technician. I’d put him on par with T.I., but that’ why I said “mainstream album.” Nas hasn’t really been that big of a mainstream draw lately, which also may not be a bad thing. But for the criteria of my statement, it keeps him out of the running.

Ahhh… you really can’ create a “top 3 rap albums of all time” list. I mean, you’re always going to be splitting hairs at some point. Outkast vs. Reflection Eternal, NaS vs. Wu-Tang and Biggie… comparing greatness. Someone else might mention albums from groups like Public Enemy or UGK. They’re all extremely good.
IMO… you can’t make a top 5 from the south list without including either member of UGK or Outkast, or one of the Geto Boys. I’m not hating. You have a good list, but don’t forget those guys.

Okay, I’m an eminem and Jay-Z fan, but the last album that Eminem made on a lyrical technical on par with Paper Trail was the Marshal Mathers LP. The Eminem Show, Encore and Relapse are trash lyrically. He has totally forsaken rhyme schemes and multisyllable rhyme or flow, which was never his thing.
Jay-Z is pretty much the same. Although he always prided himself in his flow, so it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Of New York’s last big three — Biggie, Nas and Jay — Nas was always the lyric technician. I’d put him on par with T.I., but that’ why I said “mainstream album.” Nas hasn’t really been that big of a mainstream draw lately, which also may not be a bad thing. But for the criteria of my statement, it keeps him out of the running.
