Young Dro Calls Atlanta The “Most Hated” City

As one of the more active cities in Hip Hop, the city of Atlanta has been the home of a number of labels over the past decade. And for Bankhead rapper Young Dro, Atlanta has even gone on to secure the title of one of the most hated cities.

In a recent interview with AllHipHop.com, Young Dro explained how that hate eventually turned into love and created a Mecca of music.

“It also has been the most hated on city too,” Dro said. “So, eventually that hate turns into love. So, being the city that you have to come to now, we’re like the Mecca of music right now…I like the fact that we have pioneered the industry and music game and made our print in the music industry. This is the recording capital.”

Dro may have referred to the city of Atlanta as the Mecca of music, but it was close to 20 years ago when Southern rap duo OutKast were booed at The Source Awards after Andre 3000 proclaimed, “The South got somethin’ to say.” The Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumors rapper briefly recalled the encounter during an August interview with Montreality.

Shortly after speaking on his relationship with Hustle Gang helmsman T.I., who he referred to as a brother, Dro gave an update on the T.I.-led clique as he commented on their ability to weather the storm.

“One thing about our click, we’re pretty cool with weathering the storm,” said the High Times rapper. “When it comes to weathering the storm and Hustle Gang and coming back, man, we have weathered the storm. We’re still here. We get interviews. People want to know about it. We still on ‘106 & Park.’ We been there like twice this year. You know what I’m saying? We got like six videos on MTV Jams.”

Prior to this month’s release of High Times, it had been over seven years since the release of Young Dro’s last studio album, Best Thang Smokin’. Despite the gap between the release of both LP’s, the Hustle Gang representer says he still managed to keep busy thanks to an overseas tour.

“I was looking through the body of work that I’ve done to see if I’ve felt myself that I’ve been gone,” he said. “I came up with 17 CDs with like 17 or better songs on them. So, I can’t say that I’ve been gone. Some of these CDs have taken me to Germany to tour. I’ve still been able to feed my kids, so I can’t say that I’m gone because a gone person can’t do these things that I do.”

In addition to touring in Germany, Young Dro has released a number of mixtapes since the 2006 release of Best Thang Smokin’. This year alone the Grand Hustle rapper released the DJ Drama-hosted Day Two and appeared on Hustle Gang Presents: G.D.O.D. (Get Dough Or Die).

    2. I dont’ know about most hated..but it is definately one of the most gay…I’m not even trying to diss or be funny…big ass grown niggaz walking around in packs and they all gay…bunch of fruit cups…don’t beleive me? go to lennox mall….shit is crazy

      1. if ou mean that in the literal sense then that title definitely belongs to San Francisco. Or Hillcrest (if your from San Diego you know that one)

    3. Atlanta is filled with trannys and ignorant niggas. Outside of Dungeon Family and few other acts, Atlanta has produced some of the worst music known to all of humanity. Fuck the ATL, and all the ignorant tranny, gay ass, homothug, “trap” retarded bullshit.

    4. Killer Mike currently holds Atlanta’s hip hop dignity. Other than that it’s a bunch of niggas tryna sound mainstream making the scene stale.

    5. Project Pat, juicy j, and the whole mafia, as well as Jet Life have put out way more and better music than anyone in ATL period. Big boi is nice, but he’s only put out 2 albums.

    6. dungeon family are the originators of how atl was represented…afro-centric with intellectual emcees on everday struggles…ludacris,ti, hitman sammy sam, pastor troy, young dro, killer mike, pill, mic bars, jarren benton, yung wun, get a pass because they are actually good rappers..everybody else is shit

    7. atl are the biggest bitters in the south, the only originals were the dungeon fam, they claimed crunk music when memphis was the first out of all to create the sound back in the late 80s, they referred to it as get buck because it was heavily ganstafied music that made you either fight or kill, atl crunk was to mainstream and club like, they never would play 3 6 mafia in clubs due to the hypnotyzing content

    8. Atlanta has successfully turned rap/mainstream music into a bad joke and straight trash.

Outside of the Dungeon Family (and look how they’ve sadly ended up as of late), they’ve bitten everything started off with the shameless biting of 3-6 Mafia and Memphis in general. Now you have this Rich Homie Quan, whoever he is, beefing with Future when both of them bit off of T-Pain. TI is straight trash now. Jeezy is garbage and no one rode with him in the A forever now. And a cat called Tity Boy renamed himself 2 Chainz and has blown up reciting some of the most horrible rhymes ever; basically dumbing himself to get notoriety and riches.

Yeah Young Dro, ATL was most hated alright. Cats in ATL hate y’all.

      1. I know your trolling, but that’s a pile of bullshit. Is that why Kendrick sells out shows in NYC? Even Game sold out shows in the East. So has Planet Asia. Get up to speed with the present.

In your attempt to label the East as haters, you’ve revealed yourself to be exactly that.

    9. atlanta killed hip hop, dungeon fam gets mad respect from me and it is sad nobody knows about them but true hip hop fans, I would kill to see real southern hip hop artist come back like david banner, c-murder, mystikal, trick daddy, bg, juvenile, scarface, triple 6 mafia, project pat
