will.i.am. Now Denies Fergie Has Left Black Eyed Peas & Calls Reports “Lies”

After reports began circulating online Thursday (June 1) that Fergie had left the Black Eyed Peas, which was information allegedly shared by the group’s leader will.i.am in an interview, will.i.am has now taken to Twitter to deny those initial reports, calling them “lies.”

In a tweet uploaded early Friday morning (June 2), he wrote, “Lies…@Fergie is focusing on #DoubleDutchess & @BEP is doing #MastersOfTheSun…That doesn’t mean @fergie is out of the group #BEP4ever.”

While it remains to be seen if Fergie will address the confusion, in the meantime, she is apparently still a member of the longtime Hip Hop/pop group … at least according to her fellow Pea. Check out his tweet above.

(This original version of the story was published June 1, 2017 and can be found below.)

As will.i.am, Taboo and apl.de.ap of Black Eyed Peas were about to take the stage at the opening ceremony of the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final in Cardiff, Wales, will.i.am. confirmed Fergie has officially left the group, according to Ahlan. While there were rumors someone would take her place, it turns out the group will remain a trio.

“As for replacing, what people know the Black Eyed Peas to be, nobody is replacing Fergie,” will said. “She’s working on her solo project at the moment, we’re on this brand-new experience, celebrating 20 years of Black Eyed Peas putting out music. We worked on a bunch of songs on her solo record, we’re proud that she has her label, but Black Eyed Peas are pushing it forward in terms of content, technology and experiences on our new [graphic novel] project, Masters of the Sun.”

Although Fergie was the prominent female vocalist on some of the group’s biggest hits — “Boom Boom Pow,” “I Gotta Feeling” and “My Humps” — Black Eyed Peas has featured an ever-evolving list of singers on various tracks throughout the years.

“Since the beginning of Black Eyed Peas, we’ve always had amazing vocalists that appeared on the mic with us,” will.i.am explained. “People like Macy Gray, Esthero, Debi Nova, Fergie. On ‘Elephunk,’ there were several females that appeared on that album. Obviously Fergie was the featured female, but on songs like ‘Lets Get it Started,’ it’s Noelle (Scaggs), and then Fergie, songs like ‘Latin Girls,’ it’s Debi Nova, and ‘Request Line,’ it’s Macy Gray. We’ll always work with good females.”

Black Eyed Peas initially started out as a trio and were more boom-bap Hip Hop than pop, but once Fergie joined the group, it seemed to take the Peas in another direction. Albeit it was a successful one, it could be that will.i.am. Taboo and apl.de.ap want to return to their roots.

Aside from the Masters of the Sun project with Marvel Comics, there is no hint of a new Black Eyed Peas album on the way as of yet.

    1. The Peas and Fergie had a good partnership. But at the end of the day…Who really gives af about the black eyed peas?

    2. B.E.P. Had some pop hits and made a lot of money but they were annoying as fuck. Couldn’t stand the music even tho it was all positivity

      1. That’s true, the songs were ok the first couple times but their music was way overplayed and some of the vocals were way corny

    3. who cares. black eyed peas have been done in the pop world for 7 years and 17 years in hip hop.

    4. If you hear the stuff they made with Ruthless before they were BEP (can’t think of their original name), and their first album with primo beats, to the electro bs they made recently, they are the biggest sellouts of all time, in any genre. The group was better pre-Fergie anyway, its not like anyone is upset about this.

      1. I was rocking with everything but your “sellouts” comment. Their core message remained the same throughout their career. They switched the branding a little, that does not constitute selling out. Artist face really difficult decisions, but I actually respect their growth and evolution

    5. 2009 had to be the worst year my ears ever went through with “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling” assaulting them everywhere I went.

    6. Black Eyed Peas were hip hop for TWO albums and then sold out when fergie came on board. And that’s fine if money is your biggest interest. But bottom line these fools became some of the biggest clowns of hip hop. So her being there or not doesn’t make a difference, they’re never going to make anything unless it gets them on the radio.

    7. Love how he dissed Kim Hill, who was the official singer on the first couple of releases…mad petty, yo…

      1. Yup, a lot of people don’t realize fergie wasn’t the original singer of the group when they were making real hiphop. I wonder why Kim Hill was replaced to begin with.

    8. Sooo…there’s an announcement of a solo effort, Taboo unfollows and has something to say, William makes a statement and now it’s all lies? Is this partynextdoor all over again? Self promotion for upcoming projects? Or are bigger forces at work…contracts and big wigs saying “hold up?”
