There are few artists on the scene who share Kendrick Lamar’s ability to send the world into meltdown, and that’s just what the Compton maestro did yesterday when he dropped “The Heart Part 4” out of (almost) nowhere.
The track banged, but a lot of the discussion in its aftermath has centered around who exactly Kendrick Lamar is firing shots at.
Two of the targets are pretty obvious, that is the popular political punching bags of Donald Trump and Russia:
“Donald Trump is a chump, know how we feel, punk
Tell ’em that God comin’
And Russia need a replay button, y’all up to somethin'”
But a lot of fans on Twitter seem to think that Kendrick reserved a few shots for his “Control” collaborator Big Sean. Kendrick had previously caused a lot of furor with his verse on the Big Sean track when he called out just about every rapper making music at the time. Now fans think that Kendrick has focused his sights specifically on Big Sean. The offending lyrics are:
“My fans can’t wait for me to son ya punk ass and crush your whole lil shit
I’ll Big Pun ya punk ass, you a scared little bitch
Tiptoein’ around my name, nigga, ya lame
And when I get at you, homie, don’t you just tell me you was just playin'”
Later he adds, “Hoe, Jay Z Hall of Fame, sit ya punk ass down,” a possible reference to Big Sean’s Hall of Fame album.
Fans think that this might be Kendrick clapping back for lines on Big Sean’s “No More Interviews” that seemed to refer to Kendrick — “And I’m just not impressed by you niggas rapping fast/ Who sound like one big asthma attack but trash when I’m rapping it back/ Who you put in your top five and claim they the savior of rap.”
A lot of speculators have also pointed to Kendrick’s repeated use of the words “little” and “lil” on the track as a possible play on Big Sean’s name.
The conspiracy hasn’t just looped in Big Sean though. Others believe that Kendrick is also taking shots at Drake with the line “Don’t tell a lie on me/ I won’t tell the truth ’bout you.”
This could be a reference to the ghost-writing claims that dog Drake’s career (something Kendrick seemed to reference on “King Kunta” too).
Regardless of how much of a stretch you think the shots at Drake are, what can’t be denied is the timing of this new track, just days after More Life came out. If the release of K.Dot’s fourth album is what he hinted at for April 7, they’ll be in direct competition on the charts.
As for the TL though? Complete meltdown.
But, of course, there are some dissenters — with some even providing evidence that Big Sean is currently a fan of Kendrick Lamar, and was in the studio listening to K.Dot’s new music.
We’re unlikely to get the green highlight on Genius from Kendrick confirming these theories, so for now we’re waiting for more music to drop and make the situation more clear. For now, though, we can thank Kendrick for spicing things up yet again.

No way in hell Kendrick beats Drake on the charts because he ain’t pop enough.
You are absolutely right! When I comes to a great artist like Kendrick Lamar… those pop charts don’t even matter. I rather an artist put out a great non-commercial album instead of polluting the charts with shitty pop records.
And no way in hell Drake beats Kendrick on a song cuz he busy singin bout passionfruits for his fruit audience
Great pop songs like Passionfruit are still listened to decades after they’re made. Do you think anybody 50 years from now will care about Kendrick Lamar maybe dissing Big Sean on a song?
Yeah. That worked well for Milli Vanilli, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice. You are a Fuckboy retard.
Well, songs like “U Can’t Touch This” and “Ice Ice Baby” still get played at parties and stadiums 25+ years later, so you kinda proved his point.
In long-term, people care about strong messages, like what Kendrick is delivering about poverty, drugs, struggle and racism. They’ll still care bout relationships and sex i guess, but there’ll always be new pop singers for that matter and no one listens to pop songs from 50 years ago.
Too many disses this year. Tired of them already.
Real talk. Just make some good music. This dissing crap is getting stupid. Listen to whatever your in the mood for.
It’s dissing season.
Y’all are not satisfied with it being about Sean because no one really cares about him lmao. He’s not dissing Drake at all. Everything about this song points to Big Sean because of Big Sean’s diss song, No More Interviews. It’s so damn sad that y’all want it to be about Drake because he’s the biggest rapper out here. Y’all really want this to be some Jay-z vs. Nas type of shit.
I’m going to assume unless the 2 have had words publicly with each other that it’s not about anybody. Jay-Z raised a whole generation of ignorant rap fans constantly looking for subliminals. From his Control verse, I don’t think Kendrick has any problems calling out anybody by name. Rapping is about proclaiming that you’re the best of this shit and saying it 50 million different ways. That doesn’t always equal a diss as fans have come to believe it means.
Speculation*
Why do things that are probably generic “I’m the greatest” raps have to be directed at somebody. I swear people are always thirsty for some wack beef shit when there isn’t anything there. As far as the actual song goes, as happens far too often with Kendrick’s music, it’s good for what it is but has no replay value unless you plan on using it for a hip hop seminar on how to rap or some shit.
Go listen to that pop, contrived drake shit then if lyrics are too much for u to digest. Gimmick non thinking ass n*ggas ruining hip hop
Most of Drake’s shit has no replay value either, but back to Kendrick who this actually was about. Stop getting in your feelings about artist that don’t give a fuck about you because I’m pretty sure I’ve been listening to this hip hop shit longer than you been around. I won’t be bumping this shit in 5 years and neither will you. All I want them to do is make music that I can quote in 5 years because it was a really, really dope song.
I still bump GKMC 5 years later
Nobody cares bout Kendick n Lil Sean, they can all get Free Schmoke if they want.
Try again
Sodium levels are high over here at DX…Kendrick releases a track and people start mentioning drake in a negative light right away…they are both dope and can see success at the same times…the media (tv, internet, radio) encourages a divide, choose sides, etc. Who’s better than who, who’s racist, etc. Take Everything you read with a grain of salt (no pun intended). Especially American media….worst part is Americans believe 99% of what’s fed to them 🙁
Your mom believed this American dick when it was fed to her. Drake is not dope. He is a Canadian child actor that copies trap music when he isn’t about that. Never was. He uses US slang and a Jamaican accent. He also has ghostwriters. All of the tracks on his album have like 10 writers credited and he is alone on the track or with two people featured. Total Fuckboy. Like his fans. You, for example.
Fist off, slap yourself silly for this. Drake is an actor AND artist which only makes him better so thanks for the compliment. As for trap music, bitch he only raps about shit he only relates to like drinking, girls, and dealing with competition. You can say Kendrick is copying him because Kendrick is starting to sound more and more soft. K Dot went full pop music when he sang a song with Sia and Maroon 5 lol. US slang? His dad is from Memphis goofy. He is HALF Canadian. As for Jamaica, Toronto has a major Jamaican influence. It’s actually cool because slang like that is used by white people, asians, black people, etc…. Also, his biggest musical influences are reggae artists and Jamaican artists in general. Lol you’re taking an L for believing Meek Mill when he said those words out of anger and he felt hurt because Drake didn’t want to shout out his wack ass album. Kendrick also has like 5+ writers on songs… Look at songs like “I”, “Hood Politics”, “Alright”, “King Kunta”, etc. You do know how sampling works right? You have to credit EVERYONE that was involved in the song you sampled on yours so it looks like a lot. You honestly had no good points at all because they all related to K Dot. You sound ignorant as hell and no wonder why Americans are seen as disconnected and plain stupid.
That’s a body
On one hand u have a man saying Tings he didn’t write & on the other hand u got a guy rapping about his own tings. If you truly think Drake is even close to Kendrick I personally think you need to get your ears checked but in a real more sense Kendrick actually makes his music (every artist samples beats, flow, and at times snips of lyrics) while you have one artist who has people write his raps completely for him. Kendrick is on a whole anotha level. I don’t even consider Drake a rapper anymore cuz of his stupid dance hall. Should’ve stayed with his “If your reading this, than its too late” ghost writers ?. And plz don’t argue that Drake has no ghostwriters. The man himself has said he does?. U can’t be the best if u don’t even make ur own shit. And even if Drake didn’t have ghostwriters Kendrick’s lyricism, experimental beats, and flow body Drake. If this new Kendrick album is anotha classic Kendrick has an argument for top 5 all time. On the other hand Drakeprob isn’t in top 50?.
Who’s he dissing? Who cares? Just enjoy the song. Analyzing every lyric, trying to find subliminals, is what ruins good songs. Part of the reason why the rap game is fucked up now.
Perhaps analyzing every lyric serves as enjoyment to some. And that’s a reason why the rap game is fucked up? Nah son.
Thank you.
Jeezum Kendrick is so good! I mean, he’s literally one of the best in the game if not the best. He’s such a student of the music, he’s so respective of the game and he incorporates so many elements of past hip-hop into it’s present form. He’s literally a lone wolf in the industry. But who wouldn’t have that kind of talent? Look he surrounds himself with! This song is FIRE and it kind of reminds me of “No More Parties in LA” due to the soul sample and his rapping prowess. #kDot4prez
Even tho he didn’t deserve a reaction Kendrick is obv burying electronica here.
Jay Electronioca might not be good anymore, but he has a great fucking catalog. When hes good hes good.
K.Dot, Cornrow Kenny, Kendrick Lamar
Sean been going hard ever since Kendrick dropped that ‘Control’ verse. Drake and his ghostwriters don’t want no problems with K.Dot
I didn’t even bother to read this article because whoever was dissed or perceived to be dissed won’t respond. Complete waste of speculation! IMO Kendrick Lamar has fizzled out and was nothing but a flash in the pan!
So who do u listen to, that can Fuk with kendrick lyrically?
Action Bronson????
Ok. Just more fake Andre 3000 weird wackness to me. I don’t get it obviously y’all do so rock on.
of course this fuckin clown has to be all subliminal and shit, fuckin nerd.. didnt he even say when he came up that he raps about things he seen and heard in the hood, that he hasn’t actually lived it.. fuckin ass clown ass muncher
