Waka Flocka Flame continues to stand by earlier comments he made about a horror-themed fashion trend, doubling down on his past criticisms in a new interview.
On the latest edition of Complex’s Explain Yourself, the Atlanta rapper read over and reacted to his old tweets. In each case, the “No Hands” rapper remained anchored in his beliefs, but one post in particular stood out.

“Nowadays everybody dress like vampires or a ninja [three laughing emojis],” the tweet read.
Reacting to the statement, Flocka said: “You know, you muthafuckas dressing like vampires calling it drip because Terrance Wang or fucking Raf Simons made it, so it’s drip. Boy, that shit ain’t drip — you look stupid. It’s like an expensive goddamn Halloween outfit.”
While the 37 year old’s comments were perceived as him throwing shade at Playboi Carti’s style, it is important to note that the original tweet is from early 2016. At the time, the Georgia native hadn’t yet broken through into the mainstream and his “King Vamp” phase was still years away.
Regardless, fans came to Carti’s defense in the comments section of the above segment because Flocka has remained firm in his stance.

“Because Carti is the number one trendsetter in rap right now,” a user commented under the Instagram clip.
Others were amused by the dig, with one person writing: “Carti fans crying in their Rick Owens boots.”
In the years since the tweet, goth-centric trends in fashion that have popularized tight, black outfits and face coverings have become commonplace in Hip Hop culture. Whereas Flocka still finds it ridiculous, more and more artists have embraced it in recent years.
In September, Trippie Redd posted a carousel of photos on Instagram in which he was rocking heavy black eyeliner, makeup, and a style of braided dreads similar to Playboi Carti earlier in 2022.

While the rapper’s new look was distinctively less gaudy and reflective of DC Comic supervillain The Joker, it also seemed to be inspired by music, like Carti’s stylistic pivot, as the 1400 general also shared an acoustic snippet of a somber unreleased song along with the photo dump.
