The Vince Staples Show was co-created with Ian Edelman and Maurice Williams. Edelman previously worked on HBO’s How to Make It In America and Kid Cudi’sEntergalactic. The series’ executive producers are Staples, writer, director, and actor Kenya Barris (black-ish, You, People), Corey Smyth, Edelman, Williams and William Stefan Smith.

The show co-stars Vanessa Bell Calloway and Andrea Ellsworth. Other actors set to appear in the comedy series include Naté Jones, Arturo Castro, Scott MacArthur, Bryan Greenberg and Myles Bullock. Check out the trailer and poster below.

The show was initially announced in 2022, when it was confirmed that Vince Staples and Kenya Barris would be working together on a new series. That initial news indicated that the show would be based on the rapper’s life and would be set in his hometown of Long Beach, California.

“I am excited to partner with Netflix and Kenya Barris on The Vince Staples Show,” Staples said in a statement accompanying that first press release. “This has been something I have been developing for some time and I am happy it’s coming to fruition.”

“It’s our mission to work with the best artists in the world,” added Tracey Pakosta, Netflix Head of Comedy. “Vince has already established himself as one of the most talented young musicians today and we’re really excited about how his sensibility – and sense of humor – will translate into a unique comedy series.”

Though the series has been in development for almost two years, the show began as a web series in 2019. Its original concept began as an episodic project directed by Vince himself and Calmatic, the man behind Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” video.

That initial web-only series featured Vince debuting exclusive music — including the singles “So What?” and “Sheet Music” — and selling merchandise unique to the limited series.

As he prepared for his own show, Staples beefed up his acting credentials with roles in the film White Men Can’t Jump and a recurring part on Abbott Elementary.
