Tyrese has revealed that he’s never watched the first Fast & Furious movie which kicked off the billion-dollar franchise back in 2001.

The box-office movie star recently sat down for an interview with Big Boy’s Neighborhood where he explained what was behind his decision to never watch the inaugural film in the first place.

“I’ve never seen part one to this day,” Tyrese admitted. “And that’s no disrespect. So what happened was, and I’ma tell you why, because John Singleton gave me that advice. So fast forward, Baby Boy happens, Vin [Diesel] and the studio at the time got heavy in negotiations and they could not make a deal for Vin and the director to come back and do part two.

“So then that’s when the opportunity for me to slide in and do 2 Fast 2 Furious opposite Paul Walker presented itself. And I’m not gon’ mention what they were negotiating, but it was a real number.”

He continued: “[Vin] went from that number trying to get to that number and the studio and him just fell apart and then the opportunity for me to slide into that happened.”

After Big Boy asked if Vin Diesel was in 2 Fast 2 Furious, he responded by saying: “No sir,” before adding: “It wouldn’t be no franchise if they didn’t start it.”

Tyrese has starred as Roman Pearce in seven of the franchise’s 10 films: 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), Fast Five (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), Furious 7 (2015), The Fate of the Furious (2017), F9: The Fast Saga (2021), and Fast X (2023), the latter of which arrived in theaters on May 19.

Recently, Tyrese opened up about the time he the late Paul Walker were unknowingly sleeping with the same woman while on the set of 2 Fast 2 Furious.

The singer/actor divulged all the details in an April interview with The Morning Hustle, explaining they were both involved with Eva Mendez’s stunt double Cindy Leon.

“She’s a beautiful girl,” Tyrese said, “and me and Paul were smashing the same girl on the set of 2 Fast 2 Furious and didn’t even know it … It was Eva Mendez’s stunt double, and we were both just complimenting this girl every day and for whatever reason we just didn’t say we were both smashing the same girl.”

He continued: “And then we told each other. He was like, ‘Yeah?’ I was like, ‘Yeah…’ and then her goofy ass just recently did an interview letting the world know, but it gets even worse with her.”

Tyrese was then asked by the host who stopped sleeping with Leon first, to which the actor replied: “I don’t think we stopped.”

Meanwhile, the singer-songwriter is currently embroiled in some legal drama after being ordered to pay his ex-wife nearly $650,000 by a judge he publicly called out for being “racist.”

Tyrese attended a court hearing in his custody battle with his ex, Samantha Lee, in Atlanta last month where he was held in contempt of court for failing to pay the $10,000 a month in child support he was ordered to cough up last August.

According to TMZ, Tyrese argued on the stand that the monthly amount is excessive as Lee allegedly earns a substantial income on her own.

The Alter Ego singer’s protest fell flat, though, as he was ultimately ordered by Judge Kevin Farmer to fork out $237,944 in back child support payments to his ex-wife — with whom he shares a four-year-old daughter named Soraya — and $399,000 for Samantha’s attorney fees.
