Tupac’s Powamekka Cafe To Open In New York For Limited Time

A vision backed merely by three handwritten pages in one of Tupac’s notebooks will soon become reality.

Powamekka Cafe, a concept ‘Pac wrote about in those few notebook pages, is set to open in the space currently occupied by the Nas and John Seymour-owned Sweet Chick. The cafe, which is backed by the estate of Tupac, will be open for business at the New York City location for three days only (April 7 – 9).

“Sweet Chick is about community and culture at its core, and so was Tupac,” Seymour said in a statement. “As a restaurant, we embody everything he represents — music, style, food, and neighborhood. We are honored to be hosting the Powamekka Cafe pop-up at Sweet Chick, and help bring his vision to life with the dishes that he loved.”

The cafe will boast a “carefully curated collection” of personal photos, poetry, and music memorabilia from the late rapper.

Additionally, patrons at Powamekka Cafe can expect to dine on a variety of Southern favorites, including meatloaf, gumbo, and Tupac’s cousin Jamala’s fried chicken wings.

Powamekka Cafe is currently accepting reservations for its three-day run.

The announcement of the Powamekka Cafe location at Sweet Chick comes months after another restaurant created its own version of ‘Pac’s vision. Last September, Take 3 Burger in Fresno, California, held a one-day Powamekka Cafe pop-up.

For one day, the eatery featured a menu of ‘Pac-inspired bites, including the California Love Chicken Sandwich and Thug Passion cake pops.
