Trick Daddy Discusses Miami Hip Hop History, Says The Rap Game Left Him

Trick Daddy was heavily influential in Florida Hip Hop culture during the mid to late 1990s. He along with Trina and Uncle Luke represented the city heavily and made people pay attention to Dade County.

Recently announcing his return to Hip Hop, Trick says that he never left Hip Hop. Everything changed for him and he had to step back.

“People be like, ‘Trick, why did you leave the rap game?’ I didn’t leave the rap game; the rap game left me,” he told the Miami New Times. “I’ve been dealing with a lot of different issues — the lupus, the IRS, along with just family problems — and now I’m getting all that together.”

Trick Daddy also talked about his influence on Miami and says he was one of the fore founders of the Hip Hop culture there.

“People like me, Luke, Trina, JT Money, we opened a lot of doors for musicians and artists,” he says. “There was people way before us that made big, classic hit records in Miami that didn’t get the recognition because they said all we knew how to do was sell drugs, look good, and kill each other.

“I am Miami,” Trick says. “You can’t just scream, ‘Miami!’ You have to live in Miami. You have to do things for Miami. You have to give to the community, the kids. I been through three Category 5 hurricanes, two major riots. If you did that, lemme hear that. I’m not impressed about your cars, your money, your jewelry; that don’t impress me. Show me that you love Miami instead of just saying it.”

    1. He had a great run, but pop music careers usually don’t last decades. Like an actor on a hit tv show, you usually only get one. So you better make it count and get enough money for the rest of your life. This guy had 5 Gold or better albums over a 6 year run, but that was a decade ago. Too bad he doesn’t actually own the thug.com domain that his one album was titled. That might be worth more than all his music.

      1. Right, but “Cubano” didn’t say that shit. Which means you can easily conclude that “Cubano” didn’t read that part of the article, so Hakeem told him the crucial part….Did I really have to explain that?

    2. I’ve always respected Trick. Say what you want about him, but he was never a dumb rapper. Even when he was making nasty strip club music and shit, he would sprinkle in some knowledge. These dudes underneath me are just young stupid niggas that have yet to be humbled by life. One day, just like everyone else, you assholes are gonna be sick with some kind illness, and you ain’t gon’ look as good as you once did. Dudes like ya’ll don’t have respect or reverence for anything because you yourselves aren’t respected in your own life. Otherwise, you wouldn’t feel so inclined to laugh at someone else’s misfortunes, especially a misfortune that you also one day will have to look in the face. Just typical behavior of simple minded fools though. It’s predictable.
