T.I. has let it be known that his upcoming hood comedy film Da Parments should not be compared to Ice Cube‘s 1995 cult-classic film Friday.
The self-proclaimed “King of the South,” took to Instagram on Thursday (June 22) and responded to a repost of a meme that compared the two films side by side and asked: “Ya’ll think T.I. new movie Da Partments gon hit like Friday?”

“Comparison is the thief of joy,” T.I. wrote. “We got our own sh*t goin on. 1st of our kind. Watch, laugh& enjoy.”
In the comments sections, there were many fans who gave their perspective about the meme and if Da Partments will truly measure up to Ice Cube’s debut film.
Prior to his recent post, Tip announced Da Partments will be arriving on Tubi later this year. D.C. Young Fly serves as a producer on the film alongside the Atlanta rapper, while Lil Duval and Karlous Miller are named as executive producers.
“The wait is almost over!!!! In other T.I. film news, fans of his 2006 southern flick, ATL have been calling for a sequel. The closest fans got to receiving the long-awaited film was a teaser trailer for the sequel which was released in 2021 by director Chris Robinson.

Members of the original cast including Lauren London, Jackie Long, Jason Weaver, Albert Daniels and Evan Ross could be seen in the clip walking down a street with Ray Charles’ “Georgia” playing in the background.
At the time, the surprise trailer came on the heels of Chance The Rapper giving the original ATL its flowers on Twitter as one of the most “quotable movies” of his childhood. Chris Robinson replied by teasing the sequel, but few expected it to manifest so quickly.

“I believe ATL is a movie that never truly got it’s flowers,” Chance wrote at the time. “It’s probably the most quotable movie from my childhood.” At this point, however, it’s not clear whether ATL 2 will ever see the light of day.
Aside from checking people regarding his new film, he also had to set a DJ straight back in May at an event honoring the late Clay Evans for not knowing his musical history.
In a video on IG, T.I. can be seen standing onstage next to DJ Toomp, singing his praises to the packed crowd in the Bankhead district of Atlanta, GA.
“We had a hit record, you know what I’m saying?” he said. “Play one of them muthafuckas!” The DJ then spun Destiny’s Child track, “Soldier,” which features Tip alongside Lil Wayne — but this was not produced by DJ Toomp.

This did not go over well with T.I., who shook his head and said, “That ain’t one of ’em!” as the track quickly concluded.
The ATL native then reminded the audience why he was one of the greatest to ever emerge from the south as he rapped “Dope Boyz” — from 2001’s I’m Serious album, which was, indeed, produced by Toomp — off the top of the dome, with the audience singing along.
