Almost everything has changed this week in the Top Singles list. Well, some stayed the same. This week, we had the unusual treat of hearing the return of a former teen Pop star who has since crossed over into the R&B/Soul realm. He even brought a Rap boss with him to sweeten the deal. Meanwhile, we have some out of genre talent filtering back into the mix, which is sometimes a good thing. It is in this case. Check out what the list has to offer this week. It’s definitely a mixed bag.
Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z Know How To Make a Hit
Justin Timberlake took a gigantic hiatus. While film and SNL skits really made up the 7-year break, JT knew well that his comeback to music had to really mean something. We knew there was some sort of a Jay-Z collaboration in the works, but little did we know that the Timberlake and Carter track “Suit & Tie” would arrive so soon after hearing about it. Well it did, and it shot right to the #1 spot. Lil Wayne showed up for #2’s “Staring At the World,” and he returned again at #6 with Drake and Future on “Good Kush & Alcohol (Bitches Love Me).”
A$AP Rocky Invites Skrillex To the List, Joey Bada$$ Brings Premier
A$AP Rocky has been something of a mainstay on the list as of late. His track “1 Train” off Long.Live.A$AP has been circulating for a while now. This week it arrives at the #4 spot. A$AP closes out the list this week with an unlikely friend. Or two. At #10, he delivers the high energy “Wild For the Night” with none other than Skrillex. Birdy Nam Nam is also on the track, but it’s the Rap meets Dubstep union that really brings the track together. While A$AP brought the production of Skrillex into the fold, Joey Bada$$ came through with DJ Premier. Their track “Unorthodox” is in at #3 this week.
