The Hip Hop Week In Review: Kanye West, DJ Head, Eminem

This week, Kanye West had a heated interview with Sway Calloway, while Detroit’s DJ Head explained why he and Eminem have not collaborated in years. Finally, Eminem releases the video to his rapid-fired track from The Marshall Mathers LP 2, “Rap God.”

Kanye West Screams At Sway During Interview, Video Released

A radio interview between Kanye West and radio/television personality Sway Calloway became heated when Sway asked Kanye why he wouldn’t break into the fashion world himself, rather than through a collaboration with a company.

“How Sway? You ain’t got the answers, man. You ain’t got the answers. You ain’t got the answers. You ain’t got the answers, Sway. I’ve been doing this more than you,” said Kanye, shouting.

Eventually, Kanye apologized to Sway and said he wasn’t trying to be disrespectful.

“I just told you I lost the money because I did not have the knowledge [to] do it the right way…I’m not trying to embarrass y’all,” said Yeezy. “What I’m trying to say to y’all is this industry of what I’m trying to get into—ain’t nobody ever broke down. Ain’t nobody broke down. We all slaves. So, I ain’t trying to disrespect you on your show. We all slaves to something.”

DJ Head Explains Why He Stopped Working With Eminem

Even before Eminem started working with Dr. Dre, the rapper could be seen with DJ Head at his side, up until Em’s release of The Eminem Show in 2002.

In a recent interview, Head spoke on the matter. “I moved to Europe for a couple years to do a bunch of gigs and keep money flowing in,” he said.

DJ Head continued, “He just went and did the 8 Mile thing and just kept going.”

Head also spoke about studio tricks he gleaned from Dr. Dre. “Dre actually helped me mix ‘Shit On You,’ DJ Head says. “He didn’t teach me anything I didn’t already know, but there were a couple tricks in terms of mixing that I’m still pondering. Like when he made ‘Guilty Conscience,’ I was trying to figure out how the hell he got the drums out of the sample.”

Eminem Releases “Rap God” Music Video

Eminem has released a video for his second single, “Rap God.”

On Wednesday (November 27), Em dropped the video, which alternates between visuals of him being in a colorful television, located in a room where he is connected to wiring, and in a dark warehouse in a cypher surrounded by other rappers.

Cameos in the video include Slaughterhouse and Denaun Porter:
