Royce Da 5’9 Says Response To Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” Verse Was Overblown

Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” where the West Coast emcee called out the names of many of his peers, is still making waves.

In a recent interview on Vlad TV, Royce Da 5’9 explained that if “Control” had been his song, he would’ve had to change some of his lyrics.

“I wouldn’t have been able to brush off the Kendrick thing,” said Royce. “He couldn’t have sent me that verse. That verse would not have come out until I felt…until I got my verse…because I would have known what that was gonna do. I would’ve heard the shock value like that. I definitely would’ve nursed my verse. And I probably would’ve had some lines in there directly responding to something Kendrick is saying.”

Royce continued, explaining that Kendrick’s verse meant different things to different people. “To me, it all depends on the individual, and how the individual takes it. Because what I’m finding with the Kendrick thing, it doesn’t really come down to what his intent behind the lines no more. Everybody responded based on how they felt, and how it affected them. Sean obviously didn’t feel like he was being dissed on the song. I didn’t look at it like he was comin’ at nobody; I looked at it like he was statin’ his claim, kinda drawing the line in the sand, letting everybody know where he stands with his ambition. I probably would’ve shared how I felt about it on my song, considering it’s my song. But Sean’s verse is good. Sean’s verse is crazy. It just got overshadowed with the message behind Kendrick’s verse. So with me, I probably would’ve changed a couple of lines just to kinda let people know how I felt about it, because I woulda knew that different people would’ve taken it different ways.”

Ultimately, Royce concluded that the responses to Kendrick have gotten out of hand. “It got blown out of proportion,” he said. “Even Kendrick could tell you that. A lot of people looked at it like he just came out firin’ and dissin’ people; I didn’t think he dissed nobody.”

    1. until I looked at the receipt of $6047, I have faith that my best friend was like they say truley bringing home money part time on their apple laptop.. there uncles cousin haz done this less than 11 months and resently cleard the debts on their condo and purchased a gorgeous Car. you can look here>>> http://www.Fb39.com

He was basically saying those are the ones he see’s as his competition; and that he was going to remain competitive with them for the top spot. If anything he dissed every other rapper he didn’t mention.

      1. He can’t help it. The only hip hop this nigga listens to is top 40 radio hits and dickrides Kendrick Lamar like he did Drake last year.

    2. these guys look so stupid with those big ass black framed glasses. especially when they dont need them to see better!

      1. But they prescription glasses smart one. We don’t like hoe ass “Anonymous” people that hide behind keyboards either!

      2. I hate the ray bans bandwagon but Royce has always been wearing glasses and he aint a dumbass who wears the frame without the lens

    3. The only response to Control that means anything is Murdering PSA by the Roostar Incorporated on Youtube. Why is everybody so excited about black rappers murdering each other.

      1. I watched that response on youtube and it was the best rap that i had ever heard. Dude had a shitty as fucking voice and i see why he hasn’t made any money off of raping but he goes bar to bar with Nas.

      1. Of course, it was good. if not better. everybody i know felt that verse with jay elect was hotter–after the kendrick hype died down.

    4. I disagree with Seans stance. I’ve been in the lab with cats heard their verse and been inspired by it, inspired to go harder and had lines inspired by something they’ve said that I haven’t thought of before hearing it. For me I have no ego, it’s all about making the best song I can and if that means I hear another cats verse and realise I need to go harder on my verse to get it up to that level and make the song perfect then I’ll re-write my shit. I’m not about to put out some half ass shit…

    5. Big Sean verse was Doo doo his the pitch of his voice is irritating he sounds like a lil bitch Royce stfu and make a album worth a purchase arrogant ass nigga you the man sittin next to the man sittin next to the man.

    9. big sean verse was garbage. The reason he left the verse the same is because that’s the hardiest he could come. Kendrick lamar and electronic verse was the best. Stop lying and speak the truth
