The Game Recalls Receiving Dr. Dre’s Approval On “The Documentary 2” Tracks

During an interview on Hot 97, Los Angeles, California rapper The Game revealed that he received Dr. Dre’s approval early in the process of creating his most recent album, The Documentary 2.

According to The Game, close to two years ago he brought the first three tracks on The Documentary 2 to Dr. Dre to get a gauge of where he was at with the project. He went on to explain that upon hearing the three songs, Dre responded by stating “This is it.”

From there, the West Coast wordsmith says he knew he was on the right path with the album.

The Documentary 2 might be my best work to date because of what it took to complete this album,” The Game said. “It kinda had the same elements and the same obstacles as the original Documentary, which is—I’ve been working on for three years. And I kept scrapping it cause I couldn’t get it to Documentary standard. And I took the first three tracks on the album, which are still the first three tracks on the album, I took ‘em to Dr. Dre and I played it cause I just wanted to hear if I was off to a great start. So Dre told me, after hearing the three tracks, he was like ‘This is it.’

“And so after that it was pretty much easy cause I got stamped by the Doc…I knew the caliber of music that I needed to complete it,” he added. “And we worked for the next year and a half, two years with different producers. And we finally got it to a point where it was sounding classic.”

The Game also spoke on his recent giveaways of $25,000 to fans. Although the idea was inspired by the number of days leading up to the release of The Documentary 2, he says it wasn’t about promo.

“I don’t do it for promo,” he said. “I give away too much money for it to be promo. I don’t have that much stuff to promote. I just felt like—It was 25 days til my album dropped and I just was like ‘Let me just give away $25,000 a day to just random people around the world.’ And because I can’t be, but one place at one time, I enlisted a few of my friends. Like Tip and La La. La La was in New York, so she did it one time. It’s cool, man. It’s people giving. I just really look on Instagram and pick somebody random.”

The Documentary 2 is scheduled for release on October 9.

      1. Its not really documentary 2. Hes using the name for promotion. he independent now on whaCK ass e one entertainment. with the exception of a few songs, the album is a low budget production and is gonna flop most likely.

    1. When the game announced the album he said he would bring back all the producers from the first Documentary… i dont see Just Blaze, Timberland or Eminem.. hearing all the previews on itunes i dont hear any How We Do, Put you on the Game, Start from Scratch type beats…. you shoulda just named it another name… so far it sounds like a disappointment but im hoping not.. im still listening to Dres Compton album daily

      1. It’s sounding like a disappointment? Lol You heard what two songs? People don’t even listen to music anymore. It’s all comments, reviews, and how much records the artist sold. The music is the last thing people worried about. Clowns disrespecting the culture. I listen to music. The actual words. You rap nerds listen to track listings. Lol

      2. Pro-tip: never believe anything Game says. Seriously, this should be 1×1. Good rapper who has some dope music, but as a public figure is unreliable and bi-polar. Even with the measure of the notoriously delusional mainstream hip-hop, where shit-talking 24/7 is business as usual. I’d also love to have a proper Documentary sequel, but the odds is that he’s doing it only for attention.

      3. Nigga aint on a major label no more. Its gonna be on E one entertainment independent. Prolly didnt have the budget.

        This album gonna flop hard

    2. It features Diddy… Fukin Diddy? This chump hollas pacs name, signs with jimmy henchmen and has fukin Diddy featuring on his album… BITCH ASSSSS NEGGER!!!!

    3. This sh!t is going to be released on E One Entertainment. Its going to be whack like year of the wolf was. 38 tracks and only a few good songs.

He dont have dat major label budget no more so i think he blew most of his money on Dre and the featured artists…spent the little he had left on whack no name producers

    4. I like The Game, but I’m willing to bet this album falls way short of The 1st Documentary. Look at the production credits from the Original…Dre, Just Blaze, Hi Tek, Kanye, Havoc, Timbo, Focus…If you look at his career, his production on his albums fell off really hard after his 1st 2 albums. On the Documentary 2, he’s got mostly in-house no name producers, that tells you right there the shit is gonna be a letdown.

      1. well, low budget producers and no promotion is what you get when youre not on a major no more. he probably blew his budget on dre production and features.

This is on EOne Entertainment. Same label that released year of the wolf. Whack as fuck.

      2. just because they are no name producers don’t mean they ain’t good. Look at Kendrick Lamar. He has in-house producers, and beats are sick. Even Jesus Piece. Black Metaphor produced Ali Bomaye, which is a banger beat. And he had more banger beats on the other tracks too. Game knows the beats man. He’s like Jay-Z when it comes to selecting beats. He knows it when he hears a banger beat so he don’t need major producers on his album. I think on the second part of the album he’ll have more Cool and Dre tracks. Listen to the snippet of Step Up from Documentary 2. Producer is in house but it’s a banger beat for sure.

    5. Bunch of fuckin haters on here. I don’t give a fuck which labels bring it out. I heard the snippets and the shit BANGS!! like the real me says.. GAME STR8 BEASTIN ON THESE NICCAS!
