The Game will unleash his next studio album Drillmatic: Mind Vs. Heart on June 17. Just over two weeks out, the veteran rapper has yet to unveil many details about the impending project. But on Tuesday (May 31), he headed to Instagram to share what looks like the album’s cover art featuring a black-and-white photo of a crying baby rocking an N.W.A chain.
In the last slide of the post, Game also revealed the project contains a whopping 30 tracks. Similar to Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, it’s being billed as a double album with Mind being one-half and Heart being the other. As he wrote in the caption, “DRILLMATIC. Mind vs Heart. June 17th 2022. Executive Produced by @hitboy.”
The Game claimed he was putting the mic down in 2019 shortly after releasing Born 2 Rap. But in a 2021 interview with HipHopDX, he announced his short-lived retirement was over and he’d been in the studio, evidently working on Drillmatic.
During the conversation, he lamented the lack of substance in commercialized rap but was optimistic about the future of Hip Hop, especially with his return.
“It fucking sucks there’s no real substance in music anymore, but we have to go through it until it’s fruitful again,” he said at the time. “Logic is working with Madlib. And of course, Kendrick and Cole, and then I’m coming back again. Shit’s coming.
“Kendrick and J. Cole can only sit quiet for so long, so you’ll get some good shit. And again, I like the fucking Polo Gs, the Pooh Shiestys, and of course Lil Baby, I love it. I’m in my car, I throw on Lil Baby, but everybody’s not Lil Baby. So again, we got to pick and choose what has substance.”
As previously noted, Drillmatic is executive produced by Hit-Boy. The highly sought after producer is at the top of his game, working with everyone from Nas and Dreezy to 2 Chainz and, of course, The Game. In 2020, he and Nas won a Grammy Award in the Best Rap Album category for King’s Disease. The sequel was nominated in the same category the following year but was bested by Tyler, The Creator’s CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST.
“Dre did nothing for me” but uses an NWA chain on his album cover
I see what you did there and applaud your eyes for seeing that. I used to like Game but this hypocrite needs to just shut up because he is beyond annoying now. Annoying to the point I don’t even care about this album. I am only replying to this article because the guy above made a very valid point and needs to be acknowledge.
It’s so unfortunate how this man’s life is playing out. They say you can never be right until you are right within yourself and if it’s true he has bipolar disorder I wish he’d get some help. He completely shitted on his own career with the help of no one else. Actually his management being more visible than him definitely helped devalue his brand and music. I really gave up once that whole sexual assault thing and him not showing up to court but showing up on IG trying to defend himself went down. I’ll give the project one listen but the antics and his unsteady behavior truly goes to show why no one keeps him around. Why is he like this? What happened to him or has this always been him?
To be fair Game actually said : “It’s crazy that Ye did more for me in the last two weeks than [Dr.] Dre did for me my whole career.”.But yeah the fact that he posts a pic of a (likely his) baby with an NWA chain is very confusing at the least. Even if his quote is fact you dont shit on the man that put you on, even if it was indirectly through 50 Cent. That shows that he held an underlying grudge against Dre.
He didn’t say that. He said Kanye did more for him in 2 weeks the Dre did in his whole career. Which I also don’t understand. But, keep to the facts. Y’all twist the words. He did’nt say Dre did nothing..
this is the key here. I interpreted his comments on Drink Champs to mean that Kanye has moved mountains for Game, not that Dre didn’t put him on or help him. it wasn’t a shot at Dre, it was bigging up Ye.
Game name shouldn’t even be mention in the same ball park as Kendrick. I hope the album is shit, just like the person he is.
What a lame album title….how is it gonna have substance when it’s named after the most toxic form of rapmusic.
Notice how he’s even stole the font from Nas’ illmatic cover?
Seriously the man’s a walking knock off of hip hop.
Only in hip-hop do we constantly tear down artists. My favorite rock groups of all time are Nirvana, Incubus, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Linkin Park, and Future Islands. As Rock fans, we never tear down rock artist to prop another artist. We strictly appreciate the music. This is why Rock acts can tour sold-out stadiums well into their 70’s. If we’re judging The Game on his music and music alone we would have to objectively say he has 4 albums that are borderline Classic and 4 other albums that are solid 4mic albums. If we rank that catalog to other rap piers he would have the case of being a top 5-10 artist of all time, but yet the male fans constantly bring up other topics except for the music. Side note: Jay Z, whom most consider a Goat has multiple duds: Magna Carta, 4:44, Kingdom Come, Unfinished Business yet because he’s more likable we gloss over that. Again, can we just appreciate the music and the music only. Let the women gossip about the bs.
Well, you’re sitting here attempting to compare rock n roll culture to hiphop culture. Not many Rockstars trying to kill one another. Not many Rockstars making diss tracks against others. Hiphop is competitive by nature at this point. It often glorifies violence, hatred, drug use, gang lifestyles, etc. You’re calling out ppl for hating Game for who he is and what he does, and not for just judging the music. Well guess what? People ridicule his shallow topics and constant name dropping all the time. Also, people hate on good artists all the time for their personal character. Look what happened to Ja Rule. Ven Vetti Vecci is better than most any game albums. But Ja Rule died as an artist because of his personal actions. People began hating James Franco because of his actions, not because they hated his entertainment.
Fuck Red Hot Chili Peppers, old ass has beens.
Hey man, I get it you don’t like Red Hot Chilli Peppers. But for me, when I’m cruising down PCH in my 911 Californication is the 1st album played.
Game should know that the “mind and heart” is the same thing lol
Wish u shu no that a different ting lol
Another bloated compilation album with more features that originality and enough name-dropping to cover his first 3 albums.
I will always respect The D.O.C more than Game both as a person and and MC. I’m sure Dre and Snoop do too.
The baby on the cover looks extremely displeased. He must’ve heard the album already and is trying to warn us lol.
Born 2 rap was empty and lacked substance and I was excited for it, I always give a game album a listen because he has made some really good music and I don’t pay attention to the personal side of things at all ever, it’s corny and lame to be that damn attached to grown men lol. I do hate the album title and wish it was just heart vs mind, and I worry about how influenced by drill music this actually is but I’ll let the music speak for its self when it comes out
I feel the same. He’s got some solid tracks in his discography. Hit-Boy doing the whole project inspires some confidence this could be good.
Honestly, game is just straight up annoying and childish with his constant antics. Can’t stand to hear him anymore because he’s so damn annoying. The #1 hiphop biter EVER.
Game stays having other rappers names in his mouth. Guess he couldn’t stay retired since he needs that baby mama money. You 40 and you still rappin? Ugh.
Game mad his music sucks like his dance moves he got on tik tok tfoh ?
