The nominees for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards were unveiled on Tuesday (July 25) via Instagram Live, an awards show first.

Kendrick Lamar leads the pack with eight nominations in categories like Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Hip Hop and Best Cinematography. Pop princess Katy Perry and Canadian R&B luminary The Weeknd are tied for second with five nominations each.

The Best Hip Hop nominees include Kendrick Lamar (“HUMBLE.”), Big Sean (“Bounce Back”), Chance The Rapper (“Same Drugs”), D.R.A.M. with Lil Yachty (“Broccoli”), Migos with Lil Uzi Vert (“Bad & Boujee”) and DJ Khaled with Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne (“I’m The One”).

For the first time in MTV Video Music Awards history, the Best Female Video and Best Male Video categories have been combined into Video of the Year, while a Best Fight Against The System category has also been added. The new category highlights videos that inspire viewers to “stand up and fight injustice,” and finds Logic’s “Black SpiderMan,” Big Sean’s “Light” and Taboo’s “Stand Up / Stand N Rock #NoDAPL” up for the honor.

      1. Bro that Cole album was trash and forgettable. And this is coming from someone who saw Forest Hill Drive as a damn near classic. Cole’s last album was such a missed opportunity. It had the hype, the controversy and solid production but overall sounded like a bunch of his last albums throwaways. No real growth from the previous album. But then again, peeps is probably gonna hate cuz I ain’t on his dick. Just being honest.

      1. no. cinematography relates to how the images come out, the picture quality, filters, etc. art direction relates to the production design. how the set and designs are created. while direction relates to the whole production in general, the way the performers deliver, when, how and what to do in the video or movie. work of the director.

    1. I guess I have to pick Humble. Did you guys even see Mask off by Future??? This is the best video of the year and wasn’t even nominated. The song was so good even Kendrick jumped on the remix. Come on 2017.

    2. The 6ix God does make cameos in the Reminder video, so if that wins then Drake wins. Go Weeknd, beat Kendrick! Real ting ya know? #DrakeIsLoveDrakeIsLife

      1. Because they are a shitty iggity spiggity ghetto, corn row, gold teeth version of Boyz II Men, put together by Eazy-E that no one gives a fuck about. Basically a boy band for the ghetto. The ghetto 25 years ago, you old ass MF.

    3. Frake didn’t make any videos from his gaylist because he knew it sucked. Also K. Dot took a giant shit on his head and called it a hat. LOL
