Singer Teyana Taylor was incensed on Wednesday (November 10) after she came across a TMZ story claiming she defended Travis Scott in the wake of the Astroworld Festival tragedy. Taylor quickly took her grievances to Twitter and blasted the publication for its inflammatory headline.
“R U serious for this headline???” she wrote. “1: i made it clear that I always stopped my shows to help my fans. 2: I made clear BOTH ARTIST & STAFF SHOULD TAKE PROPER PRECAUTION to make sure everyone’s safe. 3: I barely even wanted to talk to you motha fuckahs. Always MISLEADING headlines.”
Paparazzi stopped Taylor at the Los Angeles International Airport and mentioned they’d noticed she recently stopped her own show to help a fan. But as she explained, Taylor’s decision to jump in was no way tied to Astroworld.
“I’ve always been that way,” she said. “There are plenty videos of me stopping my show to help my fans. There’s video of [Travis Scott] stopping the show. It’s just people are choosing whatever video they’re choosing to make it look like he’s not.
“I don’t get in the middle of all that stuff. At the end of the day, I seen a video of him stopping the show. I think it’s very important for all artists to take precautions to make sure. But also staffing, as well. It’s not just the artist. With Travis, he has large crowds, you know what I’m saying? We can’t expect him to see every single person.”
Scott has been under heavy scrutiny since the November 5 incident, with many accusing him of not stopping the show fast enough. Emergency personnel declared a “mass-casualty event” around 9:38 p.m. local time and Scott continued to perform another 37 minutes.
Eight people died and over 300 were injured during the stampede. Harris County released the names of the victims on Monday (November 8): Mirza Baig, 27, Rodolfo Peña, 23, Madison Dubiski, 23, Franco Patiño, 21, Jacob Jurinke, 20, John Hilgert, 14, Axel Acosta Avila, 21, and Brianna Rodriguez, 16.”

But sadly, the death toll rose on Thursday (November 11) when 22-year-old Texas A&M student Bharti Shahani succumbed to her injuries. Her death comes a day after doctors officially declared Shahani braindead. Meanwhile, a 9-year-old boy injured during the melee remains in a medically-induced coma.
