Tech N9ne posted a photo from the set of the “Fragile” video yesterday (December 3). The Kansas City rapper is joined in the photo with Kendrick Lamar, Bernz and Wrekonize.
“Fragile” is featured on the Strange Music rapper’s most recent album, Something Else.
In August, Tech N9ne said that the creation of “Fragile” was challenging. The song initially featured Mayday! and Kendall Morgan, but Tech N9ne said during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX in August that he wanted to include another rapper on the song with him.
“It was already elite, so I needed somebody who could come after me, and there aren’t too many who can do it,” Tech N9ne said. “Twista can do it, Busta [Rhymes] can do it, Eminem can do it, Kendrick [Lamar] can surely do it, and that’s who I heard on that beat. That was music we were doing, when you can hear that beat, it’s music. It’s empty, but it’s music. The beautiful acoustic guitar and Kendrick is musical to me. I felt like he could speak on that. I wasn’t sure if he could speak on that…but he spoke on it. People love him, and I didn’t know if he had critics that had said something bad. I wasn’t sure if he could speak on it, because people love him so much. But he spoke on it, and it was pretty raw. He held that second verse, and it’s like you ain’t mad at it at all.”

Tech N9ne has extensive ties to Kendrick Lamar. Lamar is in the group Black Hippy with Jay Rock, who is signed to Strange Music. Both Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock toured with Tech N9ne in 2010 and Tech N9ne and Kendrick Lamar appeared with Machine Gun Kelly, Big K.R.I.T. and B.o.B at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher.
Tech N9ne also says he appreciated Kendrick Lamar’s verse on “Control,” which included the lines, “”I’m usually homeboys with the same niggas I’m rhymin’ with, but this is Hip Hop and them niggas should know what time it is. That goes for Jermaine Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electron[ica], Tyler[, the Creator], Mac Miller. I got love for you all but I’m tryin’ to murder you niggas. Trying to make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas [and that] they don’t want to hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas. What is competition? I’m trying to raise the bar high.”
“My reaction was, ‘Yeah, nigga. Wake these motherfuckers up,’” Tech N9ne said during an interview with MONTREALITY. “Everybody’s so lazy, man. I always raise my bar. My bar is always raised, every album. ‘He’s A Mental Giant’ to ‘So Dope’ or whatever you listen to that Tech N9ne is technical. It’s always pushing my peers to go even harder when they do a song with me, so for Kendrick to take it a step further, say names and shit, is really waking niggas up and if anybody got a problem with my lil homie, I got his back. Sorry and shit. Let’s go.”
