TDE rapper SiR is being candid about his struggles with addiction while making his forthcoming album, Heavy.

On Tuesday (March 12), the Inglewood, CA native stopped by Sway’s Universe to discuss the project —set to drop on March 22 — and got real about why it’s been so long since his 2019 debut, Chasing Summer.

“A lot of people wonder why it’s been so long since I released music. It’s because I wasn’t able to,” he admitted. “I was going through my challenges with addiction. I had a couple of stints in rehab. I had to separate myself and really start over.”

He also apologized to Sway for his prior behavior while he was abusing substances.

Elsewhere in the interview, SiR explained how the title track for the album doubled as a therapeutic letter to himself to really come to terms with his issues.

So far, the Los Angeles native has shared two single from Heavy: “Karma” with Isaiah Rashad and “No Evil.”

The latter made waves thanks to SiR channeling D’Angelo in the music video and recreating the neo-soul legend’s iconic “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” video.
