Talib Kweli Sheds Some Light

After the critical acclaim and overall success of the his Reflection Eternal LP with Hi Tek, “Train of Thought,” Talib Kweli is ready to release his solo debut. “Kwelity” is nearly complete and should be out this summer on Rawkus/MCA.

Talib had this to say to SOHH, “The album is just about done, I finished recording everything and got about three more songs to mix. I’m excited about it and I had fun making it. On production we have Jay Dee on a couple of joints, Kayne West, Dave West, Megahertz, DJ Scratch, DJ Quik, with guest emcees DJ Quik, Mos Def, Pharaoh Monch, Bilal, Faith Evans, Vinia Mojica that’s about it.” It is odd that Hi-Tek does not appear as a producer on the album, but Talib ensures that duo is still cool.

In regards to Blackstar, Talib said that a sophomore LP is in the works. “We’re working on that, but that’s lower [priority] because Mos is actually doing a play right now, but we’ve done like four or five songs for it already.” Talib also had some things to say about the Rawkus/MCA deal. “Well, right now, my opinion is kind of biased because I got an album to finish and because of the way they handled the situation. They’re stagnant and they don’t have any money, so they can’t do shit. So personally, I really don’t give a fuck about their deal. But if the shit can get off the ground, it could be a good situation for them. But I just want them to get their shit started, I mean, the deal went through but they still don’t have any money to work with, that shit’s pissing me off.”
