T-Pain’s Rappa Ternt Sanga is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. The Jive release featured the singles “I’m Sprung” and “I’m In Luv (With A Stripper)” and became the blueprint for T-Pain‘s signature Auto-Tune sound.
In an interview with Billboard, the Tallahassee, Florida artist details the impact of his debut album.
“None of this wouldn’t be happening without Rappa Ternt Sanga or me as a whole entity, period,” he says. “None of this whole sound of music and it’s not even just rap and R&B — it’s going into pop and techno and dubstep and everything. It’s all kinda came from me. I’m seeing cartoons using Auto-Tune.”
He points out one specific artist who was inspired by Rappa Ternt Sanga.
“I would say as recent as [Kanye West‘s] 808s & Heartbreaks, which was a direct copy of Rappa Ternt Sanga,” T-Pain says. “I’m not just being a dick saying that shit sounds a lot like mine. Like literally [Kanye] told me that he listened toRappa Ternt Sanga and he made 808s & Heartbreaks. He even brought me in to make it sound more like Rappa Ternt Sanga.”

How many times yall gonna report this??? we know.already..
T-Pain is right. Kanye, Wayne, to Travis $cott owe it all to him. Auto Tune was dead before Tpain did it. Now its a staple in most trap/pop music.
cher?
Uh… .pretty sure roger troutman has been doing auto tune a lot longer than t-pain. for him to kind of jack someone elses sound and say that it’s his is bonkers to me. yes roger is old school but I mean he even had his voice on California love from 2pac.. know your roots. I ain’t hearing this b.s. you borrowed the style and others bit from it. boo hoo.
Sorry mang, that was a vocoder. Auto-Tune wasn’t around back then. It came out in the late 90’s.

Andy hes clearly talking about year 2000 and up. Your Middle School level snarkism is pathetic. Everybody and their mama knows about Roger Troutman, T-Pain didnt say that at all. And Yes, Kanye did copy his sound.
difference is people remember 808s more than rappa turnt sanga. and t-pain copied cher with the auto-tune.
