T.I. Appearance At Brooklyn Middle School Cancelled

    Today, March 9 students at Brooklyn’s Middle School 587 were going to be treated to an appearance by Atlanta rapper T.I. [click to read], but unfortunately for them, T.I.’s appearance was cancelled by school officials on March 6 upon hearing about the event.

    According to a representative from the Department of Education, the appearance was cancelled because of security concerns due to the large amount of media expected.

    Although the Department of Education is blaming the cancellation on security concerns, others are wondering why the appearance was okayed in the first place.

    …The rapper’s appearance was wrong on so many levels, it’s hard to know where to begin,” an editorial writer for the New York Daily News explained. “Harris has a 22-year rap sheet that includes drug and weapons arrests. His music is laced with sexuality, thuggishness and the N word – not what you want pre-teen listening to.

    The announcement of the cancellation comes as quite a shock for all the faculty, students, and parents who were looking forward to the T.I. appearance.

    We’re very excited about his visit if it’s going to help the children do positive things with their lives,Susan Hobson-Ransom, the middle school principal who okayed the appearance told the New York Daily News.

    Although T.I.’s appearance at Middle School 587 was cancelled, T.I. will still be making an appearance at he Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club in the Bronx this week.

    T.I.’s Boys and Girls Club appearance will be filmed for T.I.s Road To Redemption. The program airs every Tuesday at 9:30 ET/PT on MTV.
