SZA Sings At Her High School Hall Of Fame Induction

SZA has another accolade to add to her growing list of accomplishments after being inducted into her high school’s hall of fame, joining a group that includes Lauryn Hill. The TDE singer visited her alma mater, Columbia High School, in Maplewood, New Jersey on Monday (June 4) to accept the special honor and deliver a motivational speech to the current students.

Despite recent troubles with her vocals chords, SZA also gave an impromptu performance of her hit single “The Weekend.” In some since-deleted tweets from last week, she declared her voice was permanently injured.

In her speech, SZA told a room full of screaming students that her success came from the personal drive she had in high school.

“It starts with compassion,” she said. “It starts with trusting yourself even when people are telling you you’re too young to trust yourself. My mom used to say idle eyes is the devil’s playground, but I disagree. It’s where you find the details of the inner workings of yourself and figure out what you actually want to do. Daydreaming is actually where this whole thing starts.”

According to Tap Into Soma, SZA was a member of The Special Dance Company, the gymnastics team and the varsity cheerleader squad while in high school. In a 2017 interview with Big Boy, she mentioned she had hopes of being inducted in her school’s hall of fame.

    1. TDE needs to stop covering for this spoiled little ratchet Diva. Cancelling concerts but then shows up to perform this. umm she just said her vocal chords were permanently damaged. kind of sounds like when she was retiring. smh . she wont have a long career they better start getting some talent over at tDe Jay Rock Ab soul not stars neither is isiah rashad they will always be underground.. 1. I wish we could get eye contact and you talk to me like that.lol I promise you would find out there are Some people out here that aint with the Fancy mouth Social media stuff. discipline is important. its a small world i hope someday we cross paths so I can find out why you told a grown man you dont know to shut up. also SZA is ok she is not dope like that her lyrics are very trashy and she is a FAD. she is no lauryn Hill , erykah badu. lol whoever produced SZA is the star. She is weak live and needs vocal lessons also. true story. Snoop has a white girl that killing SZA

      1. Isaiah’s got talent, don’t think TDE wants to break every artist they have into a star. Kendrick’s stardom came to him, I don’t remember him reaching for it.

you need to chill with hate

        1. there is no hate there is all TRUTH. um is those artist all underground at this point ? also aint all of them artist about 30. yes TDe better get some new talent there is a reason so many labels fall off. and SZA is just what I said Ratchet. no apology to the fans you claimed your vocal chords were permanently damaged after people paid for tickets to see shows she was not apart of then she shows up at her old school and performs. VERRRRRY unprofessional; some of you fans get obsessed to the point you cant see.lol I assure you I can see.I was a big TDE fan .I still likeI said like Q , Sir , Lance has potential if he works on his writing. TDE needs to start working on some new young next generation…… mark my words SZA will not have a long career. lol

          1. Thats not all truth, most of it is just your opinion, the TDE guys you just mentioned sound good to you based on your taste, theres no truth in there being a lack of talent, thats just how you feel. Stop acting like you giving real advise, when all you want to do is to convince yourself that you could do a better job than Top or Punch. That SZA story about her vocal chords could’ve been handled better
