Suge Knight‘s son wasn’t all that impressed with Chris Rock’s live Netflix comedy special – but he did enjoy the reference about his father in a joke about Will Smith‘s Oscars slap.
Suge J. Knight spoke to TMZ following Selective Outrage airing live on Saturday (March 4). While calling Will “Will Knight” wasn’t necessarily painting Suge in a positive light, he still appreciated his imprisoned father’s name continuing to be relevant.
“We all know Suge Knight as that guy that’s all about that action. You know, whatever he does, he’s gonna do that,” Knight said. “So it’s funny to see that Suge been in jail for a minute but he still has this legendary status with who he is. So it’s just dope.”
When asked what he think his father’s reaction would have been, he responded: “He woulda said, ‘These dudes is not like me.’ But he woulda laughed though. We all know the real. ‘These dudes ain’t like me.’ … I was really bored with the special until that happened. I’ma be honest.”
According to Page Six, Rock had been “waiting to spill his humorous take on” Will’s infamous Oscars slap, which was sparked by a G.I. Jane 2 joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia.
Suge J. Knight has yet to tell his dad about the joke, however, as there’s not exactly an open line of communication behind bars.
Suge Knight has been incarcerated since 2015 when he was arrested for the killing of Terry Carter near the set of the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton. He pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter for killing the 55-year-old after an argument and was sentenced to 28 years in prison a month after his plea.
Shortly after his arrest, the victim’s family (widow Lillian and daughters Crystal and Nekaya) filed a civil suit against the former Death Row Records CEO. Seven years later in June 2022, Compton Superior Court Judge Thomas Long declared a mistrial in the matter, with jurors deadlocked 7-5 in favor of finding Knight liable.
Meanwhile, it’s been alleged that Suge Knight once spat in Lyor Cohen’s face during a prison visit over negotiations around Snoop Dogg‘s record deal.
During a recent appearance on the Boss Talk 101 podcast, Death Row Records’ former executive, Reggie Wright Jr., told a story about the time Cohen visited Suge in prison over business plans, but the conversation didn’t go down well.
Ur pops fainted in court like a straight b!tch lol
Suge Smith. Not “Will Knight”
If you’re so “gangster” and not easily amused, maybe you should have let a real comedy fan have your spot. It’s annoying like people that can get tickets to events they don’t care for but will do so bc it’s in, but don’t know ish about the artistry or the performer. I remember years ago attending a Lupe concert and got to talking to some random dude. When I started telling him my fav joints or just talking about Lupe, he informed me that he’s just an avid concert goer, and determines if he wants to listen to the artist. Ain’t that some biish ish? Somewhere, a fellow hardcore Lupe fan like myself could make the show bc either tickets sold out, or some bums bought them to resell them at a higher marked price. So to that man, I hope you are a follower now. Bc this rich privileged lifestyle hogging up tickets when you don’t know diddly squat, is bs…
