“Star Wars” Actress Carrie Fisher Dies At Age 60

    An icon has passed as Carrie Fisher, known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, died today (December 27) after suffering a heart attack last week. She was 60. The news was shared by a family representative speaking for Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd.

    “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” Simon Halls said in a statement to People.

    Fisher first starred as the galactic heroine at the age of 19 in Star Wars: A New Hope. She went on to film the two other installments of the original trilogy and appeared in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She made her last cameo appearance in Rouge One: A Star Wars Story which was released earlier this month.

    She was the daughter of legendary entertainer Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher.

    The Hip Hop community sent its tributes to the star on social media.
