Spice 1 Revisits Aftermath Of Drive-By That Almost Killed Him: ‘Glad They Missed’

Spice 1 has frequently spoken about — and reminisced on — the drive-by shooting that nearly killed him, and he’s now reflected on that fateful day with fans.

On Wednesday (July 19), the Bay Area native took to Instagram to post a photograph of a car door with five bullet holes in it.

“Glad they missed smh 90s was a mfka,” Spice 1 captioned the photo.

    Check out the post below:

The Black Bossalini rapper was the victim of two shootings — one in the late 1990s, and one in the mid-2000s.

The first shooting happened at the Too $hort Studios, and Spice 1 told The Art of Dialogue back in September 2022 that the event was even immortalized on wax.

“I mean, you can hear Short talk about this shit in a song. Like, ‘See n-ggas shootin’ at the studio late at night to see the Cherokee, you start shootin’ at Spice,‘” he said, referring to the 1996 Too $hort song, “That’s Why.” “So, if you listen to his music, you’ll hear him talkin’ about the shit.”

The second shooting happened in 2007 outside of his parents’ house, according to SF Gate. At that time, the rapper (real name Robert Green) took a bullet to the chest and suffered a collapsed lung. Ultimately, however, he pulled through.

Though Spice 1 hasn’t released any new music as of late, he’s still making headlines. Back in September 2022, he took Akademiks to task when the popular blogger made disparaging comments about rap legends.

“After the disrespect to us as OGs, it’s hard to listen to n-gga like that, to any of these muthafuckas,” he said at the time. “My heart was put into this rap shit and for a muthafucka to disrespect the game and us as far as what we started, it’s hard for me to even listen to any muthafuckas trying to come up ’cause I know I’m going to hear them say something about us, some funny ass shit, about how much money we don’t have.”

He continued: “Like that Akademiks bullshit. I gotta keep on that shit over and over again ’cause I can’t understand why a muthafucka would disrespect OGs like that and then people will sit there and let him do it. Somebody needs to slap the shit out that n-gga. Slap this n-gga. What the fuck you is you talkin’ bout? You wouldn’t know shit — if we didn’t lose, you n-ggas wouldn’t be winning. Period.”

    1. The second one happened the same day Pimp C died. I remember that clear as day. I remember that $hort spoke on that beef with the Luniz and Chris Hicks where he blamed them shooting at the studio. Shit be wild because these dudes be beefing to the point of shooting or having boys shoot at you, and then everybody link back up later. I could never fuck with a dude again that tried to kill me. Ever.
