On Monday (November 6), Soulja Boy decided to backtrack on his comments after getting clarification from Nicki Minaj on what J. Cole meant.

“Nicki just told me I took what he said wrong,” he wrote on X. “And that he was showing love. So I’m gonna let it go. My bad y’all I really thought dude was hating on me.

“My bad dawg. @JColeNC sorry for the confusion. keep doing your shit we from two different worlds. I stand on what I stand on, it’s hard coming from where I did man.

“I dealt with a lot of hate my whole career so it was just messed to think it would come from you.”

Soulja Boy went on Instagram Live with Nicki Minaj on Monday, where the Queen rapper told him that J. Cole was actually giving him credit.

“He never said that, babe,” she said. “He said that he had to keep it real with himself and admit that people like you are what was really keeping the wave going and really keeping the energy.

“And he didn’t really wanna say that to certain people or admit that. He basically gave you props, Like, ‘Yo, people like you.’ So what the fuck was you on when you misinterpreted it and now you saying he’s doing the most again?”

Soulja Boy responded by saying he’d take Nicki Minaj’s word for it and put an end to his anger toward J. Cole.

“I don’t know, man. I guess so,” he said. “I’ma go with y’all. Nicki said I heard it wrong. I heard what I heard, but aight, cool.”

J. Cole’s comments about Soulja Boy came on Lil Yachty‘s A Safe Place podcast, where he spoke about previously having an elitist attitude when it came to Hip Hop.

“Around the time Soulja Boy came out, I don’t know how this happened but I had a realization within myself ’cause I’m hearing that shit and I’m like, ‘Man, this shit, Soulja Boy tell ’em,’” he said.

“Sounds crazy to say now ’cause it’s such a classic to me, but at that time, I had resistance. Similar to when you came out and your class came out, I had resistance.

“‘Nah that’s not the thing that I love. Like what? Y’all fucking with this?’ I was one of them. But there was a part of me that had a realization. I was proud of myself for this realization.
