Snoop Dogg Had Bigger Impact Than 2Pac, According To Faizon Love

Snoop Dogg made more of an impact on Hip Hop culture than 2Pac, at least according to Friday actor Faizon Love.

The colorful comedian sat down with The Art of Dialogue for a recent interview where he was asked to explain his previous comments that Snoop was “bigger” than 2Pac at the height of his career.

“When Snoop came out, he was the biggest rapper ever,” he said. “And then he was coming down. ‘Pac was in trouble […] Snoop Dogg, when he came out had muthafuckas waiting around the corner at every record [store]. ‘Pac was in jail.

“So when ‘Pac came to Death Row, Snoop was still the biggest rapper ever, and he was facing a murder case. Ever. That’s what I was saying. I don’t know when ‘Pac passed, he grew more.”

When asked what album release was the “biggest” — Snoop Dogg’s 1993 debut Doggystyle or 2Pac’s 1996 double album All Eyez On Me, Love confidently answered: “Snoop had the biggest [album release]. You can look that up. They can tell you what Snoop sold that week. Snoop had whites and Blacks. 2Pac had n-ggas. Snoop was a phenomenon.”

After a quick Google search, it turned out Love was right. Doggystyle sold more than 806,000 in its opening week, while All Eyez On Me reeled in around 566,000.

“That’s the first week,” Love said. “Snoop was on MTV, music awards, all that shit. ‘Pac was in jail. I think the only award show ‘Pac did was Soul Train. People was waiting outside of Tower Records, any place that sold records, white people and Black people were camping out. I was like, ‘Damn! What the fuck!'”

Snoop Dogg went on to sell more than 37 million albums worldwide and is still going, while 2Pac has sold approximately 75 million despite his 1996 murder.

In the same interview, Love addressed the Lizzo and Aries Spears controversy after the former Mad TV actor compared the Grammy Award-winning singer to “the shit emoji” and “a plate of mashed potatoes.”

“The comments in itself are stupid,” he said. “I mean, Lizzo is a phenomenon and she’s really talented, and he’s not so talented. He’s got one gear. He’s a, ‘Yo, son.’ But if you know the story of Aries Spears; he’s the guy we saw on a Def Jam as a kid. He was 13, 14 years old. They flew him out to Hollywood, thinking he was going to be the next Eddie Murphy and ‘wamp, wamp.’ He was so angry.

“I was going to slap the shit out of him one time. Like, this dumb muthafucka. At the comedy store, so many muthafuckas was gonna whoop his ass because he was this cocky kid. He would get deals — him and Dave Chappelle would get all these deals — South of Sunset was one of the shows, and they would go nowhere like ‘wamp, wamp.'”

    1. Pac was the first rapper to crossover all the way to mainstream media. He used to be on CNN and shit. FOH with that shit. And did dude fix his mouth to say Pac just had black people. White girls started coming out the woodwork to fuck black dudes because of that Pac shit instead of creeping and doing it like they were before. Hell, that’s sitll his biggest fan base.

      1. You’re right, but Snoop is going on 30 years of influence. When someone talks about LA culture, they think Snoop (even though he’s from LB). There are many people in their 60s who listen to Snoop. Snoop may have never had the peak of Pac, but he absolutely has more impact. Pac had like 3 years of impact.

        1. And we’re still talking about Pac 30 years later, and he’s been dead. People don’t bring up Biggie every week. I randomly flip through the channels, and some shit about Pac will be on. There is a story here every week. Dudes in other countries I’ll run into will talk about Pac and his music and how he impacted their life. It’s no comparison. Hell, every rapper has influence these days and Snoop definitely has lasted the test of time when a lot of his peers from back then can’t be relevant anymore, but people are tripping if they don’t understand the impact Pac had before he died. That last album he released alive was definitely the right title because it’s the first time I ever remember the whole world rocking with one rapper like that. I went to Brooklyn at the height of the beef with one of my homies from college, and I remember these dudes up there being like we fuck with Pac. This is in Biggie’s back yard. Never seen anything like it before or since.

    2. It never felt like Snoop was bigger than Pac at any point to me. Even Snoop first came out
Pac was buzzing because of his performance in Juice. By the time Dear moma, and then Poetic Justice and Above the Rim came out Pac was a bigger star but a good margin.

      1. Yeah but it’s 2022, and Snoop has had more impact. It’s not that absurd, Pac died 25 years ago. He was an icon, but Snoop has surpassed that.

        1. I call bullshit on that one. Pac still had more of a cultural impact on hip hop and society than Snoop Dogg did in his entire career.

    3. This is arguable because snoops second album was Doggystyle. And people in the tri state area loved snoop and Dre. Everyday people dgaf about east vs west. I know Pac is like god to weirdos but this is a interesting take bc it’s legit but we know ppl look at the messenger

    4. What, being a snitch and disloyal. Then yeah I agree Snoop had an impact but other than that…a big “Hell No”

    5. This dude can’t seem to keep Pac’s name out his mouth still. He’s been obsessed with him for 26 years now to the point where it’s downright disturbing. Let it go already man. He’s always coming up new accusations about Pac every year and it’s just ridiculous. This is why nobody wants to work with him anymore and he’s lost his credibility. How bout you focus on you, starting writing new material and stop holding a nonsensical grudge and maybe people might hire you for movie roles again or comedy show.

    6. More like Snoop balls had a bigger impact against his chin with all this dick sucking. GTFOH. Ain’t no way in hell that he’s better than 2pac when he’s barely better than Kurupt.

    7. If this was true then Death Row would have survived after Pac died with Snoop’s DoggFather Album,huh……..*crickets* *crickets* *crickets* Exactly…my point.

    8. numbers wise, he’s right. prior to 50 cent’s “get rich or die trying”, snoop dogg’s “doggystyle” held the record for the biggest debut of any hip hop artist at that time, (800,000+ units)! then there was the impact of the chronic and the deep cover soundtrack which he played a major part in…snoop was a quiet giant so perception wise most people didn’t consider him a superstar but the numbers and accolades were there plus his energy and focus on his career wasn’t 100% because of that pending murder case (hence why “the doggfather” didn’t do well). Pac’s notoriety mostly came from his antics outside of music (fights, jail bids, shootouts)…very talented actor and musician but we can all agree that it was the image and lifestyle that enticed the public. If I may be honest, it was his biggest contribution to the entertainment world. He knew how to create and sell a brand. He invented that…

      1. Tupac is on the list at No. 8 and Snoop is No. 9. But keep in mind that Tupac’s work was done in one year! He’s been deceased since 1996 and is still on the charts, and people are still stealing his music or sampling his music. Is there another deceased rapper who anyone can say that? And these people are competing against a dead man, so that makes Tupac the Goat! Wouldn’t you say?

    9. Snoop sold 37M records worldwide since Sept. 2022 and Tupac sold 75M records worldwide since 2017. Tupac’s music/lyrics is a curriculum at Ivy League schools. Younger people are now learning the impact of Tupac’s music. Death Row Records producers/singers said that Tupac didn’t know that Interscope gave Dre, Snoop, and others Tupac’s music before he released them, telling them that I need ya’ll to sound rap like Tupac. And before they deny it, one of the people who was given the music admitted to it. Suge started the beatdown to whoever caused Tupac’s music leaks. And Tupac alone is the reason Death Row Records still relevant and marketable today! So how has Snoop had a larger impact than Tupac? Ya’ll need to stop hating and accept facts

    10. LOL you would think that would be true but it’s not, Tupac is sold over 75 million records he’s been dead since 1996. And Snoop just like biggie could never make a song like keep your head up dear Mama and then make a songs like me and my girlfriend or ambitions as a rider, ect ECT ECT the closest biggie ever got making a song like keep your head up with sky’s the limit and that is no keep your head up.
