Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow have raised eyebrows after coming out in support of Donald Trump at a political rally in their native Bronx.
Sheff appeared onstage with the controversial Republican nominee for president on Thursday (May 23) where he gave a short speech to the crowd in attendance.
The drill rapper said: “One thing I wanna say… they always gonna whisper your accomplishments and shout your failures. Trump gonna shout the wins for all of us.”
Sleepy Hallow then graced the mic and after shaking Trump’s hand said into the microphone: “Make America great again! to loud cheers from the crowd.
Hallow later wrote on his Instagram Stories while sharing the clip: “One day I’ll be president too.”
While their appearance garnered praise from Trump supporters, including recent convert Amber Rose who commented: “Let’s gooooo #trump2024,” the duo were largely criticized for endorsing the former president.
Some users suggested that Sheff and Sleepy were cozying up to Trump to secure favors from the president once he’s in office given their respective legal troubles.
“He desperately trying to get that pardon lined up cause he know where he going soon,” read one comment.
Others more explicitly criticized the duo for siding with Trump.
“He legit using ya for votes. Very sad and disappointing to see ya really fell for this,” wrote one person, while another joked: “Yall do not understand we are literally living inside of a Boondocks episode.”
Fellow New York rapper Lola Brooke also commented on the video, writing: “Na I’m crying [laughing emoji].”
Sheff G was only released from jail last month after paying $1.5 million in bail money.
The 25-year-old, who spent 14 months behind bars following his arrest on multiple gang conspiracy charges, announced his release on social media.
He wrote on Instagram: “10 MILL BOND, 1.5 MILL CASH BAIL WAS THE TICKET!! BAIL PAID SAME DAY ARE YOU DUMB, SHEFF G BACK NEW YORK WE FUCKING LITTTTT THEY COUNTED ME OUT THEY THOUGHT I WAS DONE, PEACE AND LOVE TO YALL LOL ( WINNERSCIRCLE IM W THE STARS BABY. YOU CAN COME AND EAT W US YOU AINT GOTTA STARVEE BABYYYYYYY.”
Sheff G, along with 32 others, was arrested in May 2023 and hit with charges ranging from murder to weapons, kidnapping, assault and conspiracy.
The acts of violence allegedly dated back to March 2019. Prosecutors believe the rapper used his music income to pay for hits and fueled gun violence across the city in exchange for money, lavish dinners, jewelry and more.
