Serena Williams’ Husband Defends Her Crip Walking Cameo In Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl Show

Serena Williams’ husband, entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, is hitting back at anyone who had something negative to say about his wife’s appearance during Kendrick Lamar‘s record-breaking Super Bowl halftime show.

The Compton-bred tennis star could be seen Crip Walking on an elevated stage during Kendrick’s Drake diss “Not Like Us”on Sunday night (February 9).  This was, of course, an additional dig at Drizzy as the pair reportedly dated in 2011.

As is par for the course, some people had negative things to say about Serena’s choice of dance moves and her cameo in general – and Alexis was quick to come to his wife’s defense.

“Some of y’all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago and it shows…. This is bigger than the music,” he wrote in a post to X.

Serena herself referenced Wimbledon in a video to her Instagram Story immediately after her performance, saying, “Man I did not Crip walk like that at Wimbledon. I woulda been FINEDDDD! It was all love.”

She also posted about the experience to her Instagram feed.

She wrote: “When @kendricklamar and team called and was like ‘we’ve been trying to do something forever, what about this? We loved your crip walk at the Olympics after you won the gold medal.’ I’m like Super Bowl? Are you serious? When in the world would I ever be able to dance at a superbowl? (Never) let’s do it!

“I knew my winning dance after the @olympics would pay off one day. End of story.”

This isn’t the first time Serena Williams threw some shade Drake’s way with the help of Kendrick Lamar.

The tennis legend hosted the 2024 ESPY Awards back in July, and in her opening monologue, unexpectedly mentioned the high-profile feud.

“If I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that none of us — not a single one of us, not even me — should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar,” Williams joked.

The Compton native then Crip Walked to “Not Like Us” as the hit diss song began playing, with Williams adding: “He will make your hometown not like you. The next time Drake sits courtside at a Raptors game, they’re gonna Forrest Gump him. Seats taken!”

Drake and Serena are rumored to have dated in 2011, with the Canadian rapper seen at many of her tennis matches around this time.

The alleged fling was even mentioned by Kendrick on “Not Like Us” when he rapped: “I’m glad DeRoz’ came home, y’all didn’t deserve him neither/ From Alondra down to Central, n-gga better not speak on Serena.”

In 2022, Drake took a shot at Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian on his Her Loss track “Middle of the Ocean,” rapping: “Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie/ He claim we don’t got a problem but no, boo, it’s like you comin’ for sushi/ We might pop up on ’em at will like Suzuki.”

Ohanian later responded to Drizzy’s taunts on social media, writing: “The reason I stay winning is because I’m relentless about being the best at whatever I do — including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter.”

    1. Corny and her husband is white. Kendrick being stupid again as usual. Just makes black women and the sensitive ones like Kendrick look dumb.

    2. Serena’s my girl, but anybody gonna address the elephant in the room, her being on some Michael Jackson skin bleaching shit? Like that shit’s weird that she got with this white dweeb and started lightening when she used to be as dark as me. Self-hate is a mofucka. Also, I don’t know if having two women Drake hit on the world stage was a dubb for anybody. If anything, just reconfirmed to me why all these rap dudes hate him. He came in and was fucking all the women they wanted to despite them calling him corny or gay. Like i used to think some of that shit was a publicity stunt, but he clearly was fucking all these women with how people are in their feelings about it , and that ain’t pimp.

      1. How you say that man likes lil girls on stage beside 2 of his exes that were of age? If anything Serena should be labeled a certified pedofile for taking advantage of Drake who is 5 years younger than her…

      1. Yeah, white people should never be speaking on hip hop shit like ever unless they’re on some homage shit like Eminem always does. That’s one of the first ways this shit went left the last 20 years. Just like I wouldn’t expect black people to be commenting on country music. It’s just a hard rule that has gotten violated and has led to the genre being in the toilet bowl.

      2. Nah you wanna be on the national stage all the time getting the attention… Get this criticism..don’t wanna hear it? Stick to the ghetto for thet wack shit

    3. She should have been heavily criticized for it then and now. How does your big sister get murdered by Compton crips but you’re wearing blue and crip dancing for the world? Shes not even a gang member. 43 year old millionaire with dyed blonde hair married to a white colonizer tap dancing on her sisters grave. She sure showed us.

    4. oh cool! glorification of gang violence. from a woman who’s never been a gang member. from a woman to lost a sister to gang violence. a woman who married a white man and had his kids. a woman who lightens her skin and colors her hair blonde to look more white. they not like us, they not like us.

    5. if my wife went to dance onstage to a diss song to her ex i would divorce her clown ass. the crip dancing in gang banger colors is just the icing on the cake of pure ignorance. Serena is a fucking joke.

    6. Why did Kendrick Lamar rap that he hates the bitches Drake fucks, then proceeds to use 2 of the bitches Drake fucked in his super bowl show! Good job contradicting yourself again Ken!

    7. I get “supporting” your woman but he should’ve advised her to sit this one out. Maybe it’s me, bit I’d have a problem with my main reliving her previous relationship over and over again.
