Samuel L. Jackson may not listen to music to prepare for a role, but he is known to start off his mornings with some Trick Daddy.
The esteemed actor stopped by Sway’s Universe to speak about his new Marvel TV series Secret Invasion, where he revealed that when he’s getting ready in the morning he’ll sometimes throw on the Florida rapper’s thugged-out tunes.

“I listen to music while I’m studying, that I do,” Jackson said during the interview. “When I get up in the mornings, when I’m on location and I’m working and my wife’s not with me, I can turn my Beats Pill on and play music loud as hell in the morning when I’m showering, shaving, getting ready to go to work.”
He continued: “I got my Hip Hop playlist going. Some days I wake up and go, ‘Let’s listen to Usher today.’ Boom, so I just throw on Usher’s greatest and keep it moving. Even something as off as Trick Daddy. I get up in the morning and bam! Listen to Trick Daddy. Whatever strikes me, you know? Some days its N.W.A and old stuff, some days it’s new stuff.”
While Trick Daddy has yet to responded to Jackson’s praise per se, he did repost a clip of his comments on his Instagram Stories.
The Pulp Fiction legend caused a stir in 2002 when he said that despite his appreciation for rappers, he doesn’t think they should be able to transition into acting so seamlessly.
“To take people from the music world and give them the same kind of credibility and weight that you give me, Morgan Freeman, Laurence Fishburne, Forest Whitaker — that’s like an aberration to me; you just can’t do that,” he said during an interview with the Sacramento Bee.
“It’s not my job to lend credibility to so-and-so rapper who’s just coming into the business… I know there’s some young actor sitting in New York or in L.A. who’s spent half of his life learning how to act and sacrificing to learn his craft but isn’t going to get his opportunity … because of some actor who’s been created — and you can use the word ‘actor’ loosely.”
50 Cent, who ironically would go on to build a massive blockbuster TV empire, previously told VIBE in 2011 that he empathized with Jackson’s beliefs.

“He said something about me earlier. I was a fan of him before and after he said it,” 50 said. “You understand, if you are that passionate… That person has disciplined himself and trained himself… I’m with Sam: I don’t want to be in no movie with no damn rapper.”
As for Trick Daddy, he recently abandoned his signature gold teeth, announcing in April that he’d finally paid around $60,000 to replace them with real teeth after 30 years.
