Russell Simmons Says He Probably Would Have Signed Shaquille O’neal As A Rapper

Many athletes rap, from Kobe Bryant to Clint Dempsey, but one athlete-emcee stands out as someone Russell Simmons wishes he could have worked with.

“I wish I worked with [Shaquille O’Neal] earlier when he was a rapper,” Simmons says in an interview with TMZ. “He’s kind of cool.”

When asked if he would have signed him, Simmons says it would have been likely.

“I didn’t get a chance to, but I would have, probably,” he says.

Last month, Shaq was named in HipHopDX’s “Top 10 Rap Tracks By NBA Players.”

Shaq released several records, including 1993’s Shaq Diesel and 1994’s Shaq Fu – Da Return. Both of those albums were released via Jive. In 1996, Shaq released You Can’t Stop The Reign on T.W.IsM. Records. He followed this up with 1998’s Respect. Throughout his career, Shaq’s worked with several artists, including Warren G, RZA, Keith Murray and Erick Sermon.
