Russ has given Kid Cudi his flowers in dramatic fashion: by saying that Cudder’s influence is so great that a lot of today’s music is in his debt.

Early on Monday (August 19), Russ posted his tribute on X.

“Cudi mixtapes and first two albums really influenced so much shit,” he began.

“[A]nd because I was like 16/17 when they dropped, I can’t hear certain shit people hype up without bein like ‘yea this is just a bad impression of early Cudi[‘] so I’ll just go listen to the actual thing they’re tryna do.”

Later in the day, Cudi noticed the message and responded, “[A]ppreciate the love my G. Keep crushin shit out here Russ.”

Not all of Cudi’s recent social media interactions have been this positive. Earlier this month, he revealed that his Instagram account was recently flagged, sharing that the reasoning behind the move was “lame.”

The rapper provided the update on August 8 via X (formerly Twitter), though he didn’t offer too much context about the flagged post.

“Just found out I got what is called a ‘strike’ from IG becuz I posted a picture of a joint haha [facepalm emoji] how many pictures have I posted smoking since Ive been on IG? Lame. Its weed. Its 2024. Make it make sense.”

According to IG’s safe sharing guidelines: “If you post content that goes against Instagram Community Guidelines, we’ll remove it and may then apply a strike to your Instagram account. Whether we apply a strike depends on the severity of the content, the context in which it was shared and when it was posted.”

The site does not detail what happens following the first strike, or a number of strikes one can receive before their account is at risk of being suspended.

Kid Cudi has always been active on social media, using it to share personal updates, argue with fans and rivals, and often, to act like Russ and give his peers their flowers.

In June, he acted on his belief that there needs to be more “love and support” shown in Hip Hop — and immediately set an example by heaping praise on one of the game’s top producers.

The rapper and actor took to X to share his thoughts on the current state of rap, writing: “We need more love and support for one another in hip hop man. I gotta do better too.”

He continued: “I try to show homies work sometime but I gotta really celebrate what my homies do or even people I dont know I think are dope. To spread the world, get cool shit out there I think u need to.”

The Cleveland native then gave props to Hit-BoyYoung Thug signee Strick and Jaden Smith.
