When RAWCUS released his “White People Crazy” single in January, the rapper says he was ready to reap the rewards of its success.
“I was like yo, ‘Check the bank account. What’s it at right now? Cuz tomorrow we gonna be rich,’” RAWCUS says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX that appeared in the DX Daily today (September 9). “That’s why I was like, ‘We in now, we in.’”
RAWCUS says the song drew praise from such outlets as Tosh.0, Ebony.com and New York radio station Hot 97. There was also backlash, though.
“It was kind of the opposite direction,” RAWCUS says. “It was scary. We didn’t expect it to go the opposite direction. We didn’t expect to get flagged and it was such a crazy process, everything happened. When you have places like… like Huffington Post do it, then that alone… you feel special, then TMZ, then Buzzfeed. You’re like, ‘What the hell is goin’ on?’ You know what I’m sayin’? It’s just crazy. Then the White House. Then you’re like, we in now. iTunes even took down my EP initially. Yeah, you didn’t know that, did you? They took that shit down. So for the three days I was poppin’, I couldn’t make any money.”
RAWCUS said he had to reload his EP, costing him momentum and money.
“I probably lost like $10,000 dollars,” he says. “That woulda been on Billboard. We woulda moved, you know.”
“White People Crazy” is featured on RAWCUS’ “Plan-G” mixtape.
