Ras Kass Addresses Bill Cosby Controversy On “Lyrical HipHop Is Dead” Mixtape

Ras Kass addresses the controversy surrounding Bill Cosby on his Lyrical HipHop Is Dead mixtape, which is premiering exclusively through HipHopDX.

Cosby, who has had a number of sexual assault allegations leveled against him, has also been critical of the way the recent generations of Blacks have dressed. Ras Kass addresses Cobsy on Lyrical HipHop Is Dead song “The Chase.”

“I asked a question about him specifically being very dismissive and judgemental of young Black boys’ fashion and music,” Ras Kass says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “If in fact he’s guilty of drugging and raping women, then it’s very hypocritical of him to diss us for our fashion.”

Long revered for his lyricism, Ras Kass got the inspiration for Lyrical HipHop Is Dead from a 2013 project from Kaytranada.

“Kaytranada’s project was titled Instrumental HipHop is Dead,” Ras Kass says. “Because this is music inspired by his original work, it makes sense to stay with the theme.”

Given the importance of lyricism to Ras Kass, he includes a jab at rappers who do not write their own lyrics on Lyrical HipHop Is Dead track “Basic Instinct,” which also features Rampage the Last Boyscout, 4rax and Flobama.

“It’s a general statement about the state of rap,” Ras Kass says of his assertion that rappers who do not pen their own lyrics are wack. “Artists are now brands who don’t necessarily write any of their music.”

    1. Cosby didn’t do it. It’s the white man’s way of keeping the black man down. They won’t ever let a black man rise to the heights of greatness. That’s why you never see black people in the highest echelons of anything. They didn’t even nominate us at the 2016 Oscars. Fuck that!

    2. Ras is the brightest mind in hip hop and one of the most down to earth MC’s ever. I know this first hand. And bruh, he killed this track as expected.

    3. Ras do your research my brother, you are too good an MC, the interview was spliced to mask the message he was sending, true he was wrong or off regarding naming our children (I’d rather named my child Aisha or Malik then Jaekwon or Av’on or some b.s.); his original message was about empowerment and you will see the classical steps taken by the powers that be to destroy his life. Another mistake he made was that he was not proactive, your son was murdered for a reason and from there he should have seen this coming. All these women were full of it and were lying bro. The last one Beverly was brought in because she had that natural hair, just to prove that it wasn’t only prostitutes going at him. Strange isn’t it that the cases have been dismissed yet no apologies, no outcry nothing. Yet you have people letting their son wear make up and dresses crying about a dumb trophy.
