Towards the end of this year and even well into 2011 theater-goer’s will see the release of several movies that will feature both Hip Hop and R&B artists as lead actors.
Closing out the year will be The Big Bang, The Fighter, and Red Tails. The Fighter, which will be released on December 10, will feature former rapper turned A-list actor Mark Wahlberg as well as Christian Bale and Amy Adams.
The Big Bang will include an appearance from Snoop Dogg while Red Tails will feature appearances from both Method Man and Ne-Yo. Both The Big Bang and Red Tails have yet to receive an official release date.
In 2011 Queen Latifah, Ludacris, Mos Def, RZA, Ice Cube, Diddy, and other music artists will star in major films.
The Dilemma, a comedy starring Queen Latifah, will be one of the first movies to kick off the year when it’s released on January 14, 2011. Directed by Ron Howard the film features actors Kevin James, Vince Vaughn, and more.
Ludacris will star in Fast 5, the fifth installment of the Fast And Furious series, alongside singer/actor Tyrese. The rapper revealed that he would be starring in Fast 5 via a Tweet made in July. “Shooting for Fast & Furious 5 is about to be underway…” said Ludacris.
Other notable films that will feature rappers turned actors include Keep Coming Back (Mos Def), The Man With The Iron Fist (RZA), Rampart (Ice Cube), and Shoedog (Diddy).

It’s 2010 and rappers are still getting largely shit roles in bad movies, probably none more than Ludacris. He was out-acted by everyone in Crash. Method Man is another horrendous actor. Mos Def is the only one with any kind of credibility.
yea it wasnt no oscar preformance but it wasnt thhaaaat bad.. you gotta compare it to who was in that movie with him.. he played his role pretty good i thought..
I’m no fan of Luda but to say Mos Def has acting credibility is a fucking joke.
His best work was in Cadillac Records…
And that’s because he only had like 3 scenes.
I mean shit…Have you seen Please Rewind?
Or Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy?
Mos is awful…@ acting.
I love the Ecstatic though.
He needs to stick with rhyming and quit being a hypocrite with his Hollywood shit.
Being a movie star and @ the same time trying to be an upper tier conscious rapper is a complete contradiction.
