Raekwon & Ghostface Killah Selling Opening Act Slots For $1,100

Raekwon and Ghostface Killah giving fans the opportunity to open for them for a price.

According to Digital Music News, aspiring rappers now have the opportunity to serve as the opening act for Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, during their “The Ragu Tour,” but it’ll cost them.

An unsolicited email the website received states that an opening act slot for the tour will cost exactly $1,100. That $1,100 will cover 15 minutes of performance time and a designated area for the artist to sell their merchandise.

“Alongside the 15-minute slot, rappers can also position their own merch stand at the show, something that could defray costs if anyone’s buying,” Digital Music News reports. “But rappers are responsible for all of their expenses, including travel, accommodations, food, and probably everything related to the stand itself. That means the actual cost of ’15 minutes of fame’ is probably in the low thousands, depending on a lot of factors.”

In regards to most shows, whether or not the opening act is required to pay to perform is usually up to the headlining act and other higher-ups.

The Wu-Tang duo’s “The Ragu Tour” is scheduled to kick off on July 26 in Portland, Oregon. The tour will then make stops in Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, and close to a dozen other cities.

    1. bums , i lost all respect for these clowns, never will i buy another record from them.Trying to take advantage of up and coming artist.lowlifes they are no different than these demons sitting up in these offices exploiting young kids out the hood.

      1. You a total idiot. You know how much it cost to do that? 25racks plus to be comfy. 1100? That’sa fraction of what it would cost. Wake your azz up fool.

      2. Wow. You are obviously illegal ate and can’t spell either. LOL. Dummy. Where did you get 25K from? Your hole? Ghost and Rae charge fans to take pictures with them. Total scumbags.

      5. 1st: It’ll most likely be local rappers, so they won’t be paying travel and all that shit. Like or not, Wu still brings crowds, especially Ghost and Rae. $1100 to promote yourself in front of potential customers isn’t crazy. It can cost thousands of dollars to advertise, and even then you don’t have a guaranteed audience watching you. If some bum ass rapper pays the money and they suck….it’s a lesson learned that you suck. If they bars and can actually appeal to the audience, they might either make money from the merch, or at the least gain a new fan from it.

2nd they are a bit different from “the demons in the front office” seeing how they were also at one time the same struggling, “up and coming artists” you speak so highly of. Would you rather them be trying to make a couple extra grand by selling drugs to the young kids in the hood, or giving them an opportunity to promote their talents?

    2. These “gods” obviously owe child support for their “seeds”. LOL. These two scumbags charge fans who pay to go to their shows and buy their merchandise to take pictures with them. LOL. So washed up and irrelevant. Ghost will have his last breath when he releases the MF DOOM shit. Other than that, like every prostitutes favorite excuse “they need the money”. Black ms. Piggy looking MFs

    3. Ghost and Rae broke . Poor Hustling kids to perform . #Sad #ButThisRealHipHop . FOH They won’t fill no bags with CRUMBS . So called RealHiphop BROKE . #RealSpit

      1. It’s actually smart. Previously their opening acts were the either their protege’s or some Wu affiliate like Killa Army. But you have to pay those acts.

Now they can get 4 different rappers to pay for 15 minutes each at $1100. If the opening act is an hour, they’ll each take home $2200, plus the avoided cost of paying an opening act.

        it’s smart business.

    4. the guy thats laughs at dj vlad because he got his ears stomped together courtesy of rick ross says:

wow that’s sad to see…im disappointed in them

    5. I feel like if you have $1100 to spend on a chance to rock the same stage as these legends then go for it. The thing is you probably will be performing before the crowd shows up and most likely wont be able to move any of your merch. Yet and still it’s an opportunity.

    6. This is stupid and it enables rappers to be spoiled brats. That’s all Wutang is. A bunch of spoiled brats bunched up together teaching the innocent has to not work hard and get what you want. THIEVES GET TREATED LIKE THEIVES.

    7. All national promoters do this. For the Los Angeles area promoters book national acts at their local venues and ‘sell’ slots to local opening acts. Some people call it pay to play, when it’s actually a presale ticket scheme. Sean Healy Promotions/webookbands (who’s events this site has advertised in the past) is somewhat notorious for it, same thing for the promoters at The Airliner for Friday events, Observatory OC, and many other venues across the southland. I honestly don’t see anything wrong with this as long as you can actually sell tickets to your show. If you do music and no one is willing to come to your show and pay $10-$25 to see you open for a major act there is something fundamentally wrong with what you’re doing as an artist. The one problem that stems from these types of shows is the dreadful opening acts that sound terrible but still manage to be able to pull a crowd. Sometimes these concerts has you waiting 2 to 3 hours for the headliner where either the opening acts sound nothing like top billing or just the fact that you had to hear 10 different performers before the headliner.

    8. Look at the broke azz clown comments on here. It cost money to make money and the idea is brilliant. People are always asking to be an opening act and talking about how bad they want it, well it’s time to prove it. Put up the little 1100, get your show tight and bring some merch ready to sell. This is business

      1. Or just have a tight show period I opened up for these dudes and many more and didn’t pay a dime. If you find yourself shelling out $1000 to open up for somebody things are not looking good for your career as a musician.

    9. oh to potentially get seen and pay $1100 bucks for it is stupid?? but ok to keep buying androids, iphones and gaming systems for close to $1000 is ok tho? black people make me sick

    10. No previous quality control though? Then it’s time to gather a polka band from local retirement homes.

    11. Nothing in life is free, people. Read the fourth paragraph. You gotta make some change to get some change. If you make profit, then you’ve succeeded. If not, then back to the lab.

    12. They got the game fucked up. You as an artist should never pay to perform. The artist is supposed to get paid. If you pay to perform you are a sucker.

      1. I’ll be opening up for them Aug 2. What they don’t explain in here is the artist DOES NOT PAY the $1100! We put up the money and in exchange we get 40-50 tickets to sell for the show! At $25/30 a ticket, the artist will actually MAKE A CIUPLE HUNDRED IN TICKET SALES plus whatever MERCH they sell! It’s an INVESTMENT and if u can’t move 50 tickets locally to YOUR FANS, then you shouldn’t be in Musik game anyway!!

    13. Putang clan are broke and irrelevant. They need to beg drake for a feature so they can make some money again. If drake is feeling nice and these bums shine drakes shoes drake might give them a feature for a discount.

      1. Fuck Drake and his bullshit ass slow jams. He will never acquire the level of respect that the WU has. Wu Tang is FOREVER!

    14. This is wrk g it’s probably a promoter or a middle man doing this – Rae and ghost don’t have time to spit $550 each lol.

I got paid to open up for wu and also did it for free – but the value came with so much it has become part of my career in association
It is a great network to be in and always great people at a wu tang show – investing in yourself 1100 for one show – ? Maybe buy a verse from them for 7-10k do the whole tour as an opener for free and perform with them 🙂

      Think big !

    15. What sucks about this is that this is for one opening slot. The local promoters for each city will be booking 4-8 (if you’re LUCKY, some spots will book up to 40!!!!) openers, and performance time preference mostly given to the amount of tickets sold, and is not based on skill whatsoever. So, what we end up with is

1 – OG’s and people who are really dope in general not fucking with these shows
2 – Cities and local music in general being perceived as horrible because thats what people see on stage
3 – Audiences being abused for hours with amateur bullshit

In regards to this particular offer – imagine being in the crowd and sitting through 4 hours of completely forgettable rap, drinking overpriced beverages…etc…you are getting fucking tired, it’s getting late, you’re ready for these fucking headliners….are you gonna give a single fuck about the last opener to go on before WU???

Only way this is worth it is if this is to be the ONLY opener

    16. “In regards to most shows, whether or not the opening act is required to pay to perform is usually up to the headlining act and other higher-ups.”

Ummm no. This is not a standard arrangement — opening acts are usually paid $250-500 per night by the headliner, and often on a Wu Tang-sized tour are paid $500 or a bit more per show.
