Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jxmmi has provided some insight into his early years as a rapper, and shared how he used to try and emulate Eminem‘s rap style.

During an interview with The Bootleg Kev Podcast on Friday (April 7), Jxmmi along with his brother and Rae Sremmurd rhyme partner, Swae Lee, talked about their newly released project Sremm 4 Life, the power of virality, internet challenges and more.

As part of the convo, the pair were asked about one song in particular on their new album, “Not So Bad (Leans Gone Cold),” which features a sample from Eminem’s “Stan” — and was at the center of a spat they had with Millyz.

When asked about their connection to Slim Shady, the two noted that despite being from Mississippi, they were greatly influenced by him. Then Slim Jxmmi took it a step further and revealed that he actually used to try and rap like Em.

“That was definitely my favorite rapper [growing up],” he explained. “Man what, I used to do all that ‘Hi, my name is’ [stuff]. I used to like the way he rapped. I [even] used to try and rap like him at one point in time in my life.”

This wasn’t the first time Slim Jxmmi has opened up about his personal life and what he has learned throughout his career. Most recently, he admitted to wasting quite a bit of money on one specific purchase.

Last month, during an interview with RapTV, the pair were asked about some of their biggest purchases following their success, and Slim Jxmmi made no secret of the lack of frugality he had early in his career.

The 31-year-old rapper revealed that he spent over $10,000 on a gold blunt, but according to him, he couldn’t even smoke from it.

“I don’t know what the purpose was, you couldn’t smoke out of it. It didn’t have no air hole, nothing, just a solid gold blunt for no reason at all,” he said. “[It’s the] stupidest shit I ever did.”

As it turns out, Jxmmi said he doesn’t even own the golden blunt anymore, which confirms his earlier statements about it being a stupid purchase since “it was just a piece of solid gold.”
