Rappers have been speaking out against police brutality since the dawn of Hip Hop music.
Given that America’s climate hasn’t changed much, don’t expect the content to differ much either.
Enter Pharoahe Monch, who has recruited longtime collaborators in Styles P and Marco Polo for the revolutionary single, “Same Sh!t, Different Toilet.”
The trio of Hip Hop vets use sonically use their talents to make a clear stand against racism and police brutality as protests continue worldwide.
“Looked in the mirror and said ‘breathe … breathe’/I’m about to bring six Klansman to their knees,” Pharoahe spits during his cinematic verse, which is also accented by his patented harmonizing across the record. Amid the global response to George Floyd’s now charged murder, the “Simon Says” scribe admitted the road to justice is never easy.
“Just participating in a protest is emotionally draining,” he wrote on Thursday (June 4) via Twitter. “Although solidarity is spiritually invigorating. Can you imagine it being your life’s work? Leading with love and peace, and non violence. #MLK to be Assassinated.
“I attended protest for Eric Garner. Thousands of people from all walks of life. It’s not good energy. It’s necessary, But it’s ugly vibrations. This is not good energy. I’m telling you we should be more evolved. This is sci fi alternate demensional fuck shit!”

Hip Hop has not been silent during this crucial time in history. JAY-Z called MN Governor Walz to help get George Floyd’s case into the hands of Attorney General Keith Ellison, Russ raised over $150k for Black Lives Matter, The Weeknd donated $500k to various BLM causes, Drake donated $100k to a bail relief fund, and Killer Mike provided a powerful speech addressing Atlanta amid city wide protests. These efforts are only a few highlights among the many people who are doing what they can to help spread messaging and advance the Black Lives Matter movement.
The more things change, the more they stay the same is how the saying goes. The elites divided everyone over OJ, Rodney King, Ferguson and look…..it’s happening again. I think the African American community needs to knock that chip off their shoulders and realize it’s not ‘systemic racism’, its your culture that needs to change. You all perpetuate a culture that glorifies strippers, single moms, the baby daddy phenomenon, gangs, you idolize people like Nipsey Hussel, THOT life, etc. You all went from The Supremes, The Manhattans, Earth Wind and Fire to Nicki Minaj, Snoop, Ice T, Ice Cube, etc. You’re all going backwards. How many more years do you want to be victims? Nobody marching this week (or rioting and looting) was ever a slave. Nobody in BLM ever speaks on the stuff I wrote above so are they really for the betterment of their people?
you can’t say that out loud in public, “400 YEARS OF SLAVERY” WOOOT!
It’s funny how your critiques only involve entertainment. But we already know how most privileged whites view African American culture so it’s not surprising. Just funny.
Why are you commenting? Why don’t you worry about your own culture issues and how its called addiction. Or not beating your women, kid rock, Christian church cover up etc…
How many of yall remember Organized Konfusion? I bought their two CDs.
Glad to see that you bought it, but Ok made three albums
Bet. My favorite was #2, Equinox. Was just bumping Invetro the other day. I didn’t keep up over the years, but they was always dem dudes.
Equinox was their third album. And it sucked. They got progressively worse over time, but their debut is a masterpiece.
Stress album was the best
