Inspired by the release of Dr. Dre’s Compton album, which also reportedly signals that the rapper-producer’s Detox album will not be released, HipHopWired has compiled “Detoxed: Rap Albums That Got Permanently Shelved.”
50 Cent’s Power Of The Dollar is among the projects listed. “A shook Columbia Records pulled the plug on Fiddy’s debut after he was infamously shot nine times,” the list says of the album that was to feature “How To Rob.” “Shady Records saw opportunity in the situation and the rest, they say, is history.”
In addition to having an album from eventual protege 50 Cent on the list, Dr. Dre makes an appearance for Helter Skelter, his album with Ice Cube that did not materialize.
“As the Straight Outta Compton biopic will show you, the two N.W.A stars’ lives grew very hectic after departing the group,” HipHopWired says. “We will always cherish ‘Natural Born Killaz,’ however.”
Another unreleased album named is Chamillionaire’s Venom. “After the underwhelming Ultimate Victory in 2007, Chamillionaire needed a big set-up for his next release that never materialized,” the story says. “These days, rapping is the least area of focus for the successful artist.”
