Paul Rosenberg Steps Down As Def Jam Recordings’ CEO/Chairman

After roughly 25 months in the position, Paul Rosenberg has decided to step down as Def Jam Recordings’ CEO/Chairman. According to a press release, Rosenberg instead will launch a new joint venture with Universal Music Group (UMG) called Goliath Records.

However, he’ll continue to serve as a consultant to Def Jam for its legacy artists, while also remaining the principal of Goliath Artists, Inc., the management firm that handles Eminem, among others. He’ll also maintain his role as President of Shady Records, Eminem’s joint venture with UMG’s Interscope Geffen A&M.

Rosenberg said in a statement, “Lucian offered me a dream opportunity to serve at the helm of Def Jam. The experience I had running one of the greatest, most storied record companies of the modern era was incredible. I will remain forever grateful. I’ve learned a great deal, but one of the most important things I learned is that my ability to multi-task is not without limits.

“My new relationship with UMG gives me the ability to continue to sign and develop talent in a more focused and streamlined way, while still dedicating the time necessary to fulfill my management duties and foster the many entrepreneurial endeavors connected with Eminem.”

At the same time, Def Jam also announced Senior Vice President of A&R at UMG Naim McNair “will expand his responsibilities with the added title of Senior Vice President, A&R at Def Jam Recordings, bringing significant experience and creative leadership to the label.”

While UMG is on the hunt for a new Def Jam CEO, UMG’s General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs Jeffrey Harleston will oversee Def Jam in the interim.

      1. Rappers arent hard anymore, it would be like a singing competition where you lose points if you dont sound exactly like everyone else. There would be no fighting. Also, labels and crews arent really a thing, at least not with the bigger rappers

    1. Used to be the place where REAL MC’s wanted to go. It’s a joke now. The label doesn’t want to walk towards the light. They’ve been dead though.

      1. Yea man “Real MCs” *puts on windbreaker tracksuit* *spins on head* *bes 30 years removed from the current state of hip hop*

        Afrikka Bambatta was a pedophile

    2. Def Jam isn’t what it used to be and I never think it’ll be what it was and it won’t be anything near as good as it used to be.

    3. He’ll be replaced with another “RosenBerg”, “Goldstein”, “Cohen”, “Ross”, “Goldman”, “Silver”, “Greenstein”, “Green”, “Goldberg” etc.. maybe you get what i’m aiming for here. Hint: not white people.

      1. Funny how it’s “kosher” for the god’s chosen people to only hire other people from their own ethnic/religious group in all these positions of power and control. The nepotism is so blatant. They make up like what, 2% of US population yet every fuckin HOllywood, media, entertainment exec is one of them. Go figure, right. If any other ethnic group was doing it, they would be instantly called out by these same god’s chosen people because muh discrimination etc.

        1. Also they make up like 2% of US population yet they are like 20% of congress. They are the ones pushing for wars in the mid-east because their precious holy land wants to become a world superpower and have hegemony in the region, so all its neigbhouring countries must be bombed, creating endless streams of refugees, death and destruction.
