NBA YoungBoy was taken into police custody on multiple charges in Utah earlier this week, and new details about his alleged crimes have now emerged.
On Wednesday (April 17), soon after his arrest, KUTV 2 News Salt Lake City reported that police documents indicate he is “a suspect in a large-scale prescription fraud ring” that is “known to try to acquire Promethazine with Codeine.”
Additionally, the authorities are also investigating the Baton Rouge native (real name Kentrell DeSean Gaulden) for obtaining said drugs under false identities, which they have been monitoring since September 2023.
“Someone would call in a prescription under a fake name or a physician who didn’t authorize it,” the news outlet revealed. “They would try to go pick it up then. At one point, one of the people working for YoungBoy actually drove to pick up a prescription in his Chevy Tahoe [that] you can see in some of the music videos.
“Law enforcement searched his home, they found prescriptions matching some of those fake names.”
YoungBoy has subsequently been hit with 63 charges. He denies any involvement in the aforementioned criminal operation and is being held in jail without bail.
As previously reported by HipHopDX, the 24-year-old rapper was booked into Cache County Sheriff’s Office on the evening of Tuesday (April 16).
He was charged with a string of weapons, drug and fraud offenses including: pattern of unlawful activity; procuring or attempting to procure drug/prescription; identity fraud; forgery; possession of other controlled substances; and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
According to FOX 13, his arrest came after multiple agencies, including the FBI, the Secret Service and a SWAT team, conducted a search warrant on his Utah home.
Officials said the pattern of unlawful activity charge “includes violations of the Utah Controlled Substances Act, the Identity Fraud Act and Fraud.”
They added that an “ongoing investigation into criminal conduct” is underway.
YoungBoy has been confined to his Salt Like City mansion since late 2021 after being indicted in his native Louisiana on charges of “felon in possession of a firearm.”
The “Big Truck” hitmaker, who was previously convicted in 2017 of aggravated assault with a weapon, was allegedly found with two guns during a September 2020 music video shoot in Baton Rouge.
He was later arrested on those charges in Los Angeles following a brief chase. Another gun was found in his car during that arrest, leading to a similar case brought against him by federal prosecutors in California.
In 2022, YoungBoy was acquitted on those charges but is still awaiting trial in Louisiana over the original indictment.
The rapper’s alleged drug habit was cited in a filing by federal prosecutors in February, which accused him of violating the terms of his house arrest by “us[ing] or unlawfully possess[ing] a narcotic drug or other controlled substance.”
U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr. further claimed that YoungBoy had “informed his supervising officer that he has no intentions to discontinue using the substance that resulted in the violation.”
He’s pretty much fucked. I knew someone in college who got caught doing this same thing (faking prescriptions to get pills). He got 9 years. Granted, NBA Youngboy probably has a lot more money, but the kid I knew wasn’t already on house arrest and was from a wealthy family, with his brother being a lead investigator in the DA’s office, and his mom being the town mayor.
We can only pray he’s gone for the next decade or more
Been trying to tell some of you, this rap shit hasn’t been paying for 99% of these people. It’s a front for money laundering and criminal activity. Drug dealing, prostitution, etc. etc.
“He din du nufin, yo”
This generation is trash. Spending more time and energy trying to get into prison. Old school rapped to get a better life. These clowns are foolish beyond belief.
This ignorant, talentless heathen was somehow afforded the opportunity to rap for a living. That’s all he had to do, RAP, and still he couldn’t handle himself. This shit is dead
