Nas Says Music And Kids Are All That Matters

Fans of turmoil and drama may not be fond of Nas’ new game plan. The QB emcee has been caught in some personal disputes recently, one regarding alleged infidelity in his marriage with singer Kelis. While tabloid tales may run wild, Nas says none of that matters in a recent statement made to fans.

“All I want to do is make music and raise my kids. Nothing else matters,” he noted.

With Nas saying that his focus is on music and his children, fans can see he’d like to put the other headlines behind him. Earlier this year, a judge dismissed contempt allegations that were previously filed by Kelis after he paid $50,000 in child support.

Part of putting music first may come in the form of the Nas and Damian Marley collaboration. The two have formed Distant Relatives and plan to release that album this year.

    1. Word Nas
Need some more classic albums in the bag

DOes anyone realize Jay-z has yet to drop an album better than HHis dead since coming back from retirement?

      not to mention Untitled

Who is the god MC again?

      1. It takes Nas 10 years to write an album…since Jigga “retired” he dropped 4-5 albums (if you want to count unfinished business and collision course)

Untitled is by far Nas’ worst album…

the only way you can back up your statement is by rallying all the Nas groupies and start talking about Ether…other than that…you got absolutely nothing…

      2. what the hell are you talking bout untitled his worse album. did you even listen to it?? guess not. and you didnt say jays albums were better you just said he’s dropped more. What should matter more to the listener? the number of albums someone drops and the number of sells or the quality of the music. jay even said he dumb down his music for fans. idiot

      3. Jay has 11 solo albums and Nas has 9 solo albums…Illmatic came out in 94 and Reasonable Doubt came out in 96 but yet Jay’s catalogue is no way as dope as Nas’ music! Nas is the TRUTH!!!!!

      4. I don’t like Nas/Jay comparisons on every damn page about em, but I’m givin in today.

“Untitled” was one of my least favorite. still better than nearly anyone else.

nearly every album Jay has dropped since he “retired” has been 80% ass. If Jay drops a dope album next, I’ll be the first to say so. But as of now his instincts might have been right around the Black Album era, because I’ve been thoroughly unimpressed since then.

Talk about money and radio-popularity, Jay wins. Talk about creating more good rap music, Nas wins.

Jay’s money is longer, Nas discography is stronger.

      5. American Gangster is better than Untitled and Hip Hop Is Dead and Untitled is one my favorites album from Nas.

      6. if you can’t say untitled is Nas’ worst album then tell me what is…

I’m a Nas fan so don’t get it twisted..like I said the groupies are going to talk about the 90’s and so on…

BP3 is better than untitled…even american gangster is better than untitled….plus the whole Hip Hop is dead thing was a gimmick that didn’t work so please spare me the classic album talk…

Nas hasn’t dropped a classic album since Stillmatic…

      7. OTAY,

BP3 isn’t better than anything. I appreciated that Jay manned up and took shots at autotune. but ironically he did it on a pop album. American Gangster put me to sleep in the first 3 minutes. I’m a Jay fan too btw, but I only care for reasonable doubt-Black album. Kingdom Come was decent too actually.

to say that Nas no classics since Stillmatic is nonsense.

God’s Son or HipHopIsDead. take your pick, but to deny both is just stupid. I say both are classic.

HHID wasn’t a gimmick either. Sure, he knew it would stir some shit up, but that album was a Vet in the rap game speaking his mind honestly and it was fire. Hot beats ill rhymes what more do you want? and the message was that hiphop is not dead if you actually listened to the whole thing.

      8. word..
        illmatic: classic
        I am..:classic
        the lost tapes:classic
        stillmatic:classic
        god’s son:classic
        untitled: borderline classic
streets deciple, nastrodamus are still 4/5

Jay-z only has 3 good cds: reasonable doubt, blueprint & american gangster
maybe the the black album.. Nas is da king of NY

      9. @Krime -While most of the shit you listed is true, I dont think I Am is a classic, and i’d put Untitled in 4/5 territory, as the N.I.G.G.E.R. tape is the classic between those two. Also there is no saving face on Nastradamus. That shit was fucking garbage, 2/5 at best, real rap. Otherwise Nas always delivers quality hip-hop, just not Nastradamus.

      10. See when y’all heads equate somebody talking about Jay’s numbers versus Nas’ to a conversation of quality versus quantity = FAIL. It’s not the numbers and the money, it’s the influence. There’s always been debate about which rapper’s the best since Hip Hop was born, even in the same crew. But it always boiled down to influence on the game. There’s a lot of motherfuckas on the street who could’ve taken Michael Jordan out in his prime, Mike Tyson or Ali out in theirs. It doesn’t matter. Kiss the rings bitch!!! I’m not talking about gimmicks like your Souljah Boy or T-Pain. I’m talking about killing gimmicks like D.O.A. Goddamn that autotune shit got quiet. Straight gangsta. I like NaS too, but I never liked that Ether shit. All of a sudden it’s a hip-hop verb? It was somebody throwing a tantrum after getting bitch-slapped. It was over on the Takeover before the response. Sorry NaS.

      11. “name a rapper that I aint influence”

        @KISS THE RINGS BITCH,

no, Ether was a lyrical beatdown and a K.O. to a classic hiphop battle by Nas. this is known. I like Jay-Z as much as the next man, but I aint deaf.

Quality vs. Quantity is a perfectly legitimate conversation when it comes to Jay and Nas. I’m not even sure what you’re point is… Jay has more influence in hiphop? It could be true. Or he might just have more influence in mainstream, radio, MTV, record labels and other dirty games.

        Nas influence:

Talib Kweli put him in his top 5
Eminem put him in his top 10
Jay-Z said Nas and Eminem are his only competition
Lupe Fiasco put him at the top of his 5
9th wonder put him in his top 5
RZA put him in his top 5
All the illest new rappers like J.Cole, Fashawn, and Jay Electronica talk regularly about studying Nas albums…

        we talkin bout Nas influence?

      12. @Stanley Truth – you gotta spell out the rest of those lists though. And since we’re saying that’s the method of determination, you need a larger sample group. Those interviews are as much about the interviewee painting a picture of himself as they are a reflection of the names that make the list. Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t. Damn, where did I hear that before?! 😉

      1. Exactly, its about the art and passion. Thats the sole reason i strongly dislike Cash Money/Young Money and any of its associates, all they preach is dollars n cents. Theres soooo much more to life than that.

      2. cosign. how long can i listen a mothafucka rhyme about his money? especially if they aint that good a rapper (Cash Money/Young Money ) yaawwn

    2. “Nas Says Music And Kids Are All That Matters”

      and Nas is correct.
Make music and fuck the bullshit. Keep ya head up Nas.

      1. @YUNG DUCE

haha that actually made me laugh. assuming that was satire. Huey vs. Riley up in here lol

      1. Word Up. Keep the dope music coming Nas. Raise yo kids and Fuck that stupid no talent Bitch Kelis. Keep Ya Head Up Esco!!!!

    3. good to see Nas holding his head & moving forward. Thats what its about. It probably gets difficult to just move on when someone is constantly trying to siphon money out of your pockets.

    4. speak to the street life
      The executive chief types
The felons, young mothers with kids they trying to feed right
The botega wearers modern day Che Guevaras
Cuz I barely survived crazy eras
Honest, always make good on my promise
I don’t talk it I do it you can hold me to it
I was born to this life I didn’t invent it
But I’d be wrong not to take a few meal tickets
You and I are real different, we don’t share the same beliefs
Fight in the ring or buy ringside seats
Either you like beef or you like to spectate
Give me gloves, and I’ma do it how the refs say
We touch em and we come out tussling
The ghetto is my garden of eden
So I keep bobbing and weaving
It’s intense so I’m hardly breathing
KO, and the winner is Nas, that’s how the scene ends

    5. This shows that Nas is a mature “grown ass man” while his ex-wife has that immature hood bitch mentality. He isn’t sending bullshit cheap shot to Kelis. He is trying to stay focused and be on his JOB while supporting the kids.

      1. For real. I hate Kelis for what she’s done to Nas. If she wanted money, then she should’ve began making more music and releasing it to the public. She should call her new boss, will.i.am, to help her out. He IS a part of the Black Eyed Peas who’s real popular right now.

As for Nas, keep your head up and keep moving forward. Can’t wait for Distant Relatives.

      2. agreed.

he speaks on it a bit in an unofficially released verse for Distant Relatives, i wouldn’t call it a cheap shot tho. He’s more respectful than I would be if some bitch did me like that. i believe he says “all i want is a rider, but these ho’s want me”

    6. as hard as she goin at Nas, either he fucked one of her sisters/cousins/aunts/grandma/mom or she just a shiesty ho that get down like that

    7. your album is getting its ass kicked over this stupid child support cases. I WROTE AN EXTRA CREDIT PAPER ON RWANDA AND I COULD HAVE DONE AMERICAN HISTORY X WHICH IS WAY easier to explain in structural-functional, symbolic-interaction, and social conflict. without anything to talk about its hard to talk about….

      1. @ WELL YA,

RAKIM’s “FOLLOW THE LEADER”, and “LET THE RHYTHM HIT ‘EM”…and KOOL G. RAP’s “WANTED: DEAD OR ALIVE” album, are better than “ILLMATIC”!

      2. I put old school and current rappers in different categories. no point in comparing them. Rakim is the inventor, created the blueprint for technical lyrics and rhymes, but that was a long time ago and Rakim couldn’t hang with the lyrical beasts he created like Nas and Em. Kool G rap is nasty still but there are rappers now that can do better.

if I had to choose one rap album on a desert island type situation I’d choose illmatic of follow the leader without hesitattion. and i love Rakim. the beats and rhymes improved with time and peaked at illmatic

      3. @ Well Ya

I liked It Was Written a tad bit more than Illmatic, though. It had more creativity and Nas’ lyrics were top-notch on that album. Illmatic is still one of the greatest rap albums ever. Don’t get me wrong.

    8. for all those that argue that NAS (and/ or EMINEM) is/ are the greatest, RAKIM, THE GOD EMCEE states that JAY-Z is now the greatest. look on youtube, under BLOKTV.

      2. to AND…

NAS may be top 5, but RAKIM is the THE GOD EMCEE. you cannot (logically) get higher/ better than that status.

and for all the rappers that study NAS…NAS studied RAKIM!

    9. Wowwwwwwwwwww!!!Recently, I came across a hot military dating and friends club. –**Blackmilitaryfriends.com**–. There are many sassy ladies and handsome military guys seeking fun, friendship, love ,marriage and even more!!!!! Maybe you wanna check out or tell your friends.

    10. Why even have this debate about Jay / Nas / Eminem?…all three have done so much for hiphop whether you are a fan or not…

All three of them have strengths and weaknesses but at the end of the day they are still known as the greatest to ever do this…that’s something that you can hardly say about almost every new artist today…they are here today…gone tomorrow…

    11. Nas has a mature outlook on the Kelis situation and I commend him for walking the higher path in the interviews. The media would just love for Nas to respond angrily to that shit. As for Kelis raping Nas’s pockets and going overboard with it, don’t know what Nas did to make her angry like that, but when you die, you can’t take any of that paper with you. Chics like Kelis give women a bad look in general because more and more niggas will just fuck em and flee in fear of getting their pockets tapped later when the shit don’t work out.

And some bitches actually wonder why niggas ain’t tryna get committed and settle down with them. It’s because of bullshit like what Kelis is doing. Child support and alimony is one thing, but the fact that Kelis is already a celeb with some paper and her suing for Nas to pay for her lawyer fees is truly over the top. Nowadays, marriage and the courts are designed to fuck a nigga over if the shit don’t work out and marriage is more of a risky stock investment for a nigga than anything. All the chic is giving up is pussy.

    12. Nas is clearly the G.O.A.T. because of down to earth statements like this, and the fact that he stays putting out relevant, hungry material despite the fact that everyone praises him as the best ever all the time. Jay-Z and even Rakim got complacent, dont really rap about relevant shit anymore and even technically they both got worse over the years.

    13. You gotta admire the nigga Nas. But the homey aint done himself favors with his nigga rich attitude to his finances. He’s been smoking that weed since a kid because of dumbass Olu Daru’s fucked up thinking that his son gotta do drugs when he’s a kid.
The weed fucked up Nas – look at all that tax shit he’s in. It’s mutherfuckin deep because when the IRS and the courts got you, they got you. It aint no conspiracy in Nas’ case – it’s what mutherfuckin happens when you aint about your business. Weed fucks up your memory and it fucks up your judgement.
50 Cent’s the nigga ya love to hate but he said it all on High All The Time. It aint good for anything – business, your relations with women etc etc. Some niggas laughed at 50 for making statements that he aint smoking shit and that he works out and eats/drinks healthy.
But you look at Young Buck – another mindfucked nigga who smoked weed like it’s part of his muthafucking diet. That nigga’s also deep in tax shit and he made fucked up judgements about his biz.
You gotta shake your head about Nas when you think of the Source article a few years back that said he had it “all – the money, the cars, the woman (‘My woman was born for me’ says Nas)”. Nas is a lesson in how not to smoke your blessings away.
You can also wonder what mutherfucking happened when he signed to Jay Z because this is where most of the tax problems coming from. Who the fuck was supposed to be doing Nas’ accounting? Was this Jay Z doing his usual sly fox shit of fucking his rivals even while fronting that there’s no beef/
