Murs has weighed in on the recent tension between the “big three” of Kendrick Lamar, Drake and J. Cole, expressing his concerns regarding the safety of those involved.

The veteran California rapper took to Instagram on Sunday (March 24) to share his thoughts in a video that he captioned “Peace.” Though he didn’t mention any names, the context became clear when he introduced the video by saying he’ll be discussing “the battle or whatever’s coming.”

The 46-year-old began by joking that he was holding back from offering his thoughts on the situation that exploded when K.Dot dropped a punishing verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” because he’s “biased and bitter and a whole lot of other shit.”

Turning serious, he said: “But, well, mostly what I am is concerned. I woke up scared the other day.”

After noting that battling is “at the core of the culture,” he suggested a creative way for artists to handle their differences.

“Why not have a Coachella where they headline a different night and we do old-school soundclash style … where we measure the decibel meter every night,” he continued. “Whoever has the loudest crowd wins, and the money goes to a charity.

“I don’t want to lose any more of my contemporaries. I don’t want to lose anyone else in our community. Especially these young, intelligent, talented, wealthy, brilliant young men. Let’s keep it an art battle.”

Remembering The Notorious B.I.G and 2Pac, he reminded his followers that the culture has “lost two of the greatest talents to ever bless this culture” due to violence.

“I don’t think it will go there, I don’t know it will go there,” he added. “But I just want people thinking about it.

“As I see timelines with ceasefire this and free this and free that: why is it, when young Black men are going at each other, it’s entertainment; and when everyone else starts talking violence, it’s not?”

“Every story has a beginning, a middle and an end,” he says in the clip. “And y’all know I’m a storyteller. Today I released a song called ‘The Beginning of the End.’ About 20 years ago, I released a song called ‘The End of the Beginning’ because I knew I was beginning the midpoint of my journey. Today, I begin the end of my journey as an MC.”

He continued: “We reached that point y’all. About a year or so left and I’m giving this notice because I want you all to enjoy all the projects I have coming. I have a lot of music coming. I want you to enjoy it and enjoy this last trip around the bases with me.”
