Metro Boomin is mourning the loss of his mother, Leslie Wayne. According to TMZ, she was shot and killed by her husband, who then turned the gun on himself on Friday (June 3).

Wayne’s body was discovered by law enforcement in an area outside of Atlanta. An autopsy will be conducted for an official cause of death. Further details surrounding the shooting are limited, but social media became overloaded with condolences for the longtime producer and his family.

In a 2016 profile for The FADER, Metro Boomin recalled his mother driving him 17 hours from their home in St. Louis to Atlanta to meet OJ Da Juiceman who, in turn, helped him grow as a producer.

Atlanta Rapper Trouble Reportedly Shot & Killed At 35

Mother and son would continue to make the 17-hour drives nearly every weekend, and Metro’s continued work as a producer was contingent on him keeping his grades up. The plan paid off, enough for him to not only attend Morehouse College briefly but also continue the momentum from hit records such as Future’s“Karate Chop” and working with Gucci Mane.

Metro’s family and his family are requesting privacy during this difficult time. The news is another blow to Atlanta Hip Hop. On Saturday (June 4), rapper Trouble was reportedly gunned down as he sat in his car. The news was later confirmed by his sister.
